Welcome to The Craig School website!

The Craig School has two campuses: a lower school (grades 3-8) located in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey and an upper school (grades 9-12) located in nearby Lincoln Park, New Jersey. The enrollment for this year is 169 students.

For more than 27 years, the Craig School has helped children who have not succeeded in the traditional classroom become successful learners. Learning difficulties need not be a deterrent to any child's aspirations--examples abound of people who have learned strategies to work around their differences and who have had great success as adults.  Among the core beliefs of the Craig School are the following:

  • All students can and will learn if the right environment and opportunities are provided
  • All students learn in different ways
  • Learning differences must be acknowledged and provided for.

Our mission is to work with children of average to above average ability who learn differently and to help them acquire the skills they need to enable them to learn steadily throughout their lives.  We accomplish this by providing a nurturing, supportive and structured learning environment characterized by:

  • Personal attention
  • Individually based expectations
  • An integrated support system
  • Specialized academic assistance
  • Provision of accommodations when and where appropriate.

In addition to offering a challenging academic program, Craig also believes that it has a responsibility to help students develop a strong set of core values along with a belief that they can learn effectively and a deeply ingrained sense of responsibility for contributing to the community around them.  These goals are accomplished through the close interaction among students and faculty that characterize the Craig culture and also through an extensive range of activities, athletics, trips, outings, and artist-in-residence programs. Additional academic and non-academic programs are offered on weekends and during the summer.
