Holiday Party

Ginny Joan Thumb.jpgCraig School families gather to celebrate the holidays at the Smoke Rise Inn in Kinnelon.

Snow closed the school on Friday, December 9th, but nothing could deter the families who made their way to Kinnelon for the annual holiday party. For those who have been associated with Craig for several years, the evening was a delightful reminder of past auctions held at this warm, attractive and inviting place. The food and drink were delicious and the company friendly and relaxed. In a way it was a nice contrast to the more frenetic pace of the auction. New families met old families, parents had a chance to mingle across grade levels, and the staff enjoyed the collegial atmosphere. Thanks are owed to PACS for arranging such a pleasant evening for parents and staff alike.

DVD Donation

DVD Donation thumbnail.jpgCraig Upper School receives a donation of three DVD players from three Upper School teachers.

With the arrival of new video projectors at the upper school this week, three teachers got together and decided to each contribute a DVD player for use with the projectors. The DVD players will enable the teachers to give better multmedia class presentations. Mr. J. C. Simpson and Mr. John Howard are both science teachers -- Mr. Simpson also teaches math -- and Mr. Joe Amorose teaches English. All three have been excited this past year about the advances in computer technology after having attended a workshop earlier in the fall on the use of SmartBoards in the classroom. The projectors, a SmartBoard and replacement laptop computers were purchased with a technology grant awarded by the Laura J. Niles Foundation.

Craig's Beat

Justin Weissbard thumbnail.jpgCraig senior, Justin Weissbard, marches with the Fairlawn High School championship band.

It wasn't the first time that the Fair Lawn High School marching band performed in Giant Stadium, but in early November the band won third place in the Group IV Open Division to become a 2005 All-State Champion -- their highest honor to date. Justin, who plays bass drum, practices as often as five times a week in his hometown of Fairlawn and attends a summer drum camp as well. It is a punishing schedule and he has no particular plans to continue after high school, but there is always the possibility of putting together a small band as he has done in the past.
