Dr. David Mitnick Speaks to Parents

On January 31, 2007 PACS hosted a workshop for Craig parents led by Dr. David Mitnick, a pediatric and adolescent psychiatrist, on the value of neurofeedback in his clinical practice.

Dr. Mitnick described neurofeedback as “brain training”, a process of repetitively engaging the brain in newer, more adaptive patterns by using operant conditioning to regulate brain activity. Dr. Mitnick displayed tracings of different EEG frequencies and showed how children can learn to increase specific frequencies by playing video games such as Pac Man and Space Race. Although Dr. Mitnick noted that neurofeedback was most effective in fear reduction and general affective mood regulation, he nevertheless described a series of quantitative EEG studies designed to establish the relationship between bioelectric patterns in the EEG and developmental deficits.

Craig Edges Riverdale for Tournament Spot

Seeded 11th in the opening round of the Morris County Basketball Tournament, Craig beat out 6th seeded Riverdale.

At Mackenna School in Wharton last week, Craig found themselves down by 5 at the half and were still down by 5 at the end of the 3rd quarter. With a last minute rally Craig was able to close the gap to 35-35 with only 40 seconds left in the game. Riverdale had the ball but it was turned over when Ryan picked off a pass, took the ball down court for a layup and wth 3 seconds left on the clock socred the winning basket. The defense did their part and prevented Riverdale from a final score. It was a huge victory for Craig!
