Craig Lower School Expo a Triumph!
Over 250 students and parents attended the annual lower school Expo on Friday, March 23rd.
Kudos to Mr. Aquino and his talented group of actors for their Friday night production of “We Need a New Spring Play!” The play had the audience doubled over in their seats. Although always a treat, Mr. Aquino outdid himself with this year’s play and the kids were fabulous.
The play was modeled after Donald Trump’s TV show, the task for the “contestants” being to showcase scenes for a new spring play. Of course, as each contestant presented an entry, it failed to meet “Mr. Trump’s” standard and the contestant was fired. The scenes, themselves, were take-offs on old favorites – Annie, Cats, The Wizard of Oz, Phantom of the Opera, and Grease. Mr. Aquino’s singular sense of humor crept into the action with renditions of George W, Hillary, and Bill. Even Paris Hilton got into the act, literally.
Refreshments in the Wilson cafeteria and visits to the lower school classrooms followed the play. Volcanoes erupted in Ms. Guthrie’s room, candies and toothpicks illustrated math problems in Ms. Lopatosky’s room, art filled the corridors, and theme papers lined the walls. It was an impressive showcase of the work the Craig students have accomplished this year.

Live It!
Lower school students spend the week meeting the President's fitness and nutrition challenge.
Beginning the week of March 5th, all lower school students began wearing "Stepometers" to record the number of steps taken each day. The Stepometer is a small plastic, battery-operated device that attaches to a belt much like a pedometer. If a child accumulated 10,000 steps per day, he or she was rewarded with a prize. Sounds like a lot of steps, right? Maybe not. Traversing the length of the Short Hills Mall and back earned this writer 6,000 steps! Maybe shopping is not so bad for health after all!
Posters advertising the benefits of good nutrition and exercise adorned the walls and were displayed in the cafeteria. An assembly featuring a presentation entitled "Jack Sprat" prepared the children the week before. Was there an outstanding stepometer total for a particular day? Stay tuned.

Viva La Mexico!
Craig's 20th annual auction at the Madison Hotel in Morristown was once again a huge success.
How is it that the PACS pulls off year after year an event of this magnitude? It can really be likened to a Broadway production -- months of work in preparation, lining up the cast (auctioneer) and crew (parent and staff volunteers), attending to the finances (finding donors and sponsors, calculating costs & billing), the staging (the theme and decorations), the myriad of details in orchestrating the night itself (tickets, sign-in, seating), not to mention the clean up afterward! Unless you are one of those who gave up your life for the last couple of months to run this event, you have no idea of the work involved and the dedication of the people who put this event together.
"Plethora," "superabundance", "profusion" - none of these words begin to do justice to the number and variety of items in the silent auction. Then the food, a delicious and varied assorment to please all sorts of palates! During the dinner and live auction, Reed Fraasa, our new auctioneer this year, brought down the house with his remarks about Mrs. Ginny Reyer and his tutelage of Mr. Tom Reyer as a novice flamenco dancer. His job as he reiterated frequently was to instill "passion" into the audience to drive up the bidding and he did just that.
This was an evening of surpassing fun! So many people joined in the effort: parents, students, faculty, staff, but the people who deserve the most credit for making it all come together are: Ginny Reyer and Lorrie Zesk, auction Co-Chairs, and PACS president, Joan Boglioli. Craig School is blessed!
