Third Grade "Book Tea"

TeaThumb.jpgThird graders read their "published" books to a rapt audience of parents.

The stories that children in Linda Wallace's and Dottie Quigley's class wrote and illustrated, were assembled into booklets for the children to read to their parents during a "book tea". One the back of each book was a carefully scripted autobiography in which the family pets, siblings, parents, friends and other items of importance to a third grader were featured. One child listed a pet fish, but then quite matter of factly stated that the fish had died!

Congressman Frelinghuysen Visits Craig

Thumba.jpgOn Monday, May 7, Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen spent an hour with the Craig Upper School students.

Congressman Frelinghuysen, a long time contributor to the Craig School, came to talk about the work of a congressman and to answer student questions on current issues. During a brief introductory talk, The congressman explained that he represents 650,000 constituents in the northern New Jersey area, and is one of 15 congressmen from New Jersey.
The students then questioned the congressman for 45 minutes on diverse topics such as the war in Iraq, support for citizens with learning disabilities, the tragedy at Virginia Tech and the inner workings of both the House and the Senate.
One of the students asked if the congressmen voted based on his conscience or the wishes of his constituents. He replied that he always voted his conscience. “People have a great deal more respect for you when you do,” and he added that he had never felt pressured to vote against his own personal feelings.
At the close of the visit, Congressmen Frelinghuysen presented the Craig school with a U.S. Flag that had been flown over the capitol.
