A Spirited Day!
The upper school's first Spirit Day of the year held on Friday, September 28th was a great success!
The idea of Spirit Day came about in 2002 when students asked for a day before exams to blow off some academic steam. This idea was then turned into an opportunity to unite the school, students and staff, through team spirit, food, and fun events. This day is held once each marking period.
The first spirit day of 2007 was an amazing success and truly epitomized school spirit. Students cheered for each other, high fiving with one hand and eating a burger or hot dog with the other! Thanks go to our coaches Mr. G and Mr. Argenti. Special thanks go to our guest referee, Class of 2007 alumnus, Matt, who kept the kickball peace. And a final thanks goes out to Marley, the official mascot of Spirit Day and resident Swiss Mountain dog, for chasing all stray kickballs. Here are the results of our events:
Cook Out: Besides the hot dogs and burgers, students brought Boca burgers, Portabella, chicken breasts, steak, bratwurst, and a rack of ribs!
Apple Bobbing: 11th grader Candido held off the pack and was crowned APPLE KING with a total of 10. Josh (9th) and Olivia (9th) tied for 2nd with 9. Olivia introduced a new technique of stem-only apple bobbing that kept her the driest of the competitors. Matt, defending AB champ, put on a brief clinic by bobbing for 31 apples in 60 seconds.
Balloon Toss: the 11th grade team of Tom and Jay continued their dominance in the Balloon Toss by winning for the third year in a row. If they win next year we will bronze the winning balloon.
Kickball Tournament: In a battle of epic proportion, the red team (9th and 10th grade) emerged victorious over the black team (11th and 12th grade) 24-18. The game was not decided until the last inning.
