Earlier this year, and just before school began, in our Lower and Middle School we held an introductory workshop for parents about our MindUp program. The MindUp program teaches people how to get centered and focused for an activity ahead of them, and with continued practice brings a sense of calm to most people. Over the last several weeks, our students have become more comfortable with this approach- as our faculty have become more comfortable and practiced in implementing the program. We become leaders of our students because we put in the extra time to get to know them, and in this instance, with Mindfulness, we are helping them understand how their own talents and gifts could possibly be more focused if they adopt some of the techniques they learn. We have heard from parents that the few minutes we dedicate to Mindfulness daily have helped with things at home as well. We are glad to be partners. As I think about the last six weeks or so of the year, I am reminded how much stress this time of year causes for our students and for our families. Each child reacts in different ways. Mindfulness should help. We will continue to help our students and with the support of our families, it will be a joyous year.
