A message from Dr. Kara A. Loftin – July 8, 2020
We are closely monitoring the evolving situation around the COVID-19 pandemic. Upon my July 1st start as the Head of School at The Craig School, I have spent much of the last week gathering information from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), local and state public health experts, the New Jersey Department of Education, the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), the NJ Association of Independent Schools (NJAIS), and peer schools. Currently, we are developing a comprehensive plan for reopening the campus in the fall for in-person instruction. There are decisions to be made that inevitably will need to change as new information, policies, and local, state, and federal laws shift. My intention is to provide a path moving forward that creates the most healthy and safe campus possible, that allows our students to have the least amount of disruption to a typical Craig School day, and promotes the community of kindness, caring, and support that The Craig School is known for. The complete plan will be shared with you by July 22nd.
Summer Academy is in full swing and The Craig School campuses remain fully operational. Administrators and staff members continue to work either remotely or on campus and are committed in our preparations for a healthy and safe reopening in the fall. Our approach is a multi-layer preventive defense to best mitigate risk of transmission of COVID-19 on school grounds. To lower the risk of possible transmission to students, parents, staff and the wider community, you and your child can expect some changes as we return to campus. As we move forward, we will need to do so together, with all members of our community committed to health and safety protocols and procedures that allow us to return to an in-person learning environment. Included is a short survey that you may take to share your questions with us. These will be added to our full plan published on July 22nd.
Thank you for your commitment to The Craig School, for your willingness to join us on this journey, and for the opportunity to care for your child.
