Dear Craig School Parents:
The 2018-19 School year will begin on Thursday, September 6th. We are looking forward to having your youngster with us and your family being part of the Craig family.
When our Lower and Middle School students return to school, they will not see major physical and changes like they did in the last two years. However, they will realize from the first day of school that room 7 in Henderson Hall (second-floor classroom in the middle of the building) will now be more prominent as a library and a place for media centered activity. Additionally, as Janet Cozine, Director of the Lower and Middle School outlines in her letter to Craig families, we will have additional STEM offerings and challenges, as well as a Google Expeditions lab to allow our students to immerse themselves in countless augmented and virtual reality tours. In addition, we are offering additional assistive technology options by adding Grammarly Premium to our catalog for our oldest students and have added new interactive whiteboards and laptops in many of our Henderson Hall classrooms. Finally, we enter our second year of direct mindfulness training as part of our homeroom and daily skill building sessions for our students with a focus on the Mind Up program and Calm Classroom.
At Craig High School, our partnership with Boonton High School continues as we begin a new long-term lease. We will open school with a new long-term lease with Boonton High School and the CHS enrollment increasing again for the 6th straight year. We continue to focus on building independent learners and creating greater self-awareness that will support and guide our students in their high school years and beyond. We will be adding to our current COACH program student workshops that will focus on essential and relevant topics ranging from character education to digital citizenship. Also in this upcoming school year, we will be integrating into the CHS Self Program, the MIDAS program, an integrated series of multiple intelligence assessment scales generating a more comprehensive and quantitative student learning profile that will add an even greater self- awareness for our students specific to their individual aptitudes and learning styles and provide further guidance in exploring post-secondary placements, potential fields of studies, and possible career directions for our teens.
For those of you who have been with us the last couple of years, you know our summer work resulted in transformational renovation projects. These projects were possible because of over $1.2 million in voluntary and transformative gifts. The Reeth Furlong Gymnasium and the level 300 rooms in the Wilson Building have been welcomed as much needed additions to our campus. We are grateful to the donors who made these transformative gifts. Earlier in the Spring, we communicated that additional renovations in Henderson Hall will only occur when we have raised sufficient funding from additional gifts. This school year will be a critical time for us to reach that reality.
In this packet of information, you will find the information pertinent to the Lower and Middle School and Craig High School. This packet has necessary forms that must be completed before the start of school. Our school policy and the requirements of the State of New Jersey is that we cannot have students in school without up to date Health Forms. Remember, please review all of your information in your student account in SchoolAdmin to keep your online contact information up to date. Our school year calendars are enclosed and will remain online all year. Additionally, you should not forget each week to review the weekly newsletter that is delivered directly by email.
I look forward to another wonderful school year and our partnership with you to make the best possible environment for the students in our care.
