HS Week Of March 22, 2021

THE CRAIG SCHOOL

WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
NOTES FROM THE DIRECTOR

Part of the process for our weekly development of our HS Newsletter is to review what we were doing a year ago on this very same week. Well, a week ago this year the world shut down and we went virtual as a school.  Who would have thought that virtual learning would be our format for the rest of our school year?

But as we stand here today in acknowledgement of where we stood a year ago, who would have thought that The Craig School would be one of the less than 100 schools in New Jersey (minus a make up snow day or a heating issue) that would be open live 5-days a week for our entire school year?  We feel blessed and honored that we as a school community were able to pull together to make this happen and move us all forward.  The enthusiasm of our students, the commitment of our faculty, and the trust of our parents are truly what made this all work! We look forward to looking back at this week’s CHIL next year and feeling as fortunate as we do today!

Happy Spring,

Dr. Cap

MARCH PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES THIS WEEK

This Wednesday through Friday are our Spring Virtual Parent-Teacher Conferences.  Prior to your conference,  you will receive a schedule with specific times and specific zoom links to each of your teen’s teachers whose classes meet 5-days a week.

You will click on the designated Zoom Link at the designated time and that will bring you to the Zoom waiting room where the teacher will invite you to join the virtual meeting at your scheduled time.  Each meeting will be 10 minutes long so in order to maximize your time, you could email any specific topics that you would like to discuss to that specific teacher.  There will be a two-minute virtual travel time between conferences to allow you to pull up the next link

All conferences with One on One Reading, School Counseling, and College Counseling that you requested are additional and will  be scheduled around your hour block.
We hope you found the conferences informative and unifying.  When it comes to your teen, we are truly a village!

ATHLETICS

INTRAMURAL HOOPS SENIOR DAY

Last week, we wrapped up our Intramural Hoops League with a celebration of our 12th grade players.  The underclassmen formed a tunnel, we cranked up some “Jock Jams'', and we gave our senior leaders the standing ovation they deserved as they were announced at game time! Thanks to Coach Norton for an awesome season, our scoreboard operator Raul for keeping us on time and our statistician, Brendan  for catching every play every time.  And a special thanks to KS Productions (CEO and High School  12th Grader, Kevin) who volunteered his  time, equipment, and expertise to allow us to live stream most of our games.  And now make some noise for your  Seniors…...

  • This player hails from The town of Wyckoff which is a Lenape Indian word that means Higher Ground.  It is also the home of NY Yankee Great Bucky Dent, the least known Jonas Brothers, Frankie Jonas, AND THIS  SENIOR, #00 Jeremy!
  • This player hails from The town of Warren which is known for its wide open spaces and its Lions Club Summer Expo.  It is also the home of Singer Gloria Gaynor who sang “I will survive”, Olympic Table Tennis Legend Lilly Yip, AND THIS  SENIOR, #7 Player-Coach Wes
  • This player hails from Ridgefield Park which has one of the longest and oldest running 4th of July celebrations in the country.  It is also home to Ozzie from the 1952 TV show Ozzie and Harriet, where Matt Damon’s movie ”Rounder” was filmed, and home to THIS  SENIOR, #17 Esmeralda
  • This player hails from Verona which tried to first be called Vernon Valley but that town name was already taken so they went with Verona after the town in Italy.  It is home to Comedian Jay Mohr, Former NY Knick and NJ Senator Bill Bradley, and THIS  SENIOR, #18 Grady
  • This player hails from Plainfield which was known as the “Colorado of the East” for its perceived weather health benefits in the late 1800s.  It is the home of former NJ Governor Jim McCreevy, where you could have gotten a haircut by Funk Music Icon George Clinton (he worked in a barber shop there), and  THIS  SENIOR, #15 “HBCD” Henry
  • This player hails from Demarest which is named for Train Builder Ralph Demerest and has a pretty cool train station which we recommend you check out if you're ever in the neighborhood.  It is home to NY Yankee Baseball Great Sparky Lyle, Former NBA Coach Lawrence Franks, and THIS  SENIOR #24 Your Captain, Jarod
  • This player hails from Garfield which was named after the 20th POTUS James Garfield and not the Cat.  It is home to NJ Jet receiver Wayne Chrebet, Lisa the Librarian on Sesame Street and THIS  SENIOR #8 Your Captain France
