High School Spotlights

CSHS Senior Blake Accepted to West Virginia University:  We are overjoyed to announce that CSHS Senior Blake is the first Craig Badger student ever to be accepted to West Virginia University! Blake shared that he selected WVU as one of his possible schools based on their strong computer and business programs.

WVU is located in Morgantown, West Virginia, is approximately six hours from Northern NJ, and has over 26,000 students. They offer 145 undergraduate majors in addition to graduate programs. They compete in Division I athletics in the Big 12 Conference for sports. Students enjoy cheering on the WVU Mountaineers in football and basketball especially while singing the unofficial song of the university, “Take Me Home Country Roads.” WVU offers accommodations through its robust Office of Accessibility Services (OAS) and has a strong on-campus support program through the WVU Center for Excellence in Disabilities.  Outside of the classroom, the university has over 450 clubs and organizations, including a Quidditch Team, outdoor adventure groups, and gaming clubs.

Celebrating “Read Across America” at CSHS Friday, March 4th:  One of our annual school celebrations that has grown over the years is “Read Across America”.  Read Across America is a nationwide celebration of reading that starts on the birthday of one of the most popular and beloved children’s book writers ever, Dr. Suess (March 2nd) but that we always celebrate on that Friday!

Like last year, we are bringing back the ever popular student demanded, Pajama Day! And back by high teacher demand, we will also be having our quiet independent reading time.  Somewhere between those two, PACS will be serving up Green Eggs and Ham, Lorax Trees, and other strangely colored goodies.

As an added treat, we will also be hosting a mini-Dr. Suess writing workshop where students will collaborate to write their own Dr. Suess-like nonsensical rhyming book! And yes, we will take pictures!

On Tuesday, February 22nd your child's re-enrollment contract for the 2022-2023 school year will be emailed to all parents.  Please log in and electronically sign the contract and submit it. Contracts are due back by March 14, 2022.

It's time to enroll in The Craig School Summer Academy!  Please fill out the registration form to enroll your child in the full-day or half-day program. The dates of the Summer Academy are July 5th- 28th and 29th, depending on whether your child is enrolling in the morning or afternoon program. Prices and times for the camp are on the registration form.  Spaces are limited for the Summer Academy, so please enroll right away. Click this link for a full description of the program.

If you have any questions regarding re-enrollment or The Summer Academy, please reach out to Nicole Moon in the Admissions office.   (973) 334 1234.

Creating Sedimentary Rocks-Earth Science Lab:  Our 9th graders are learning about sedimentary rocks in the Earth Science classroom.  Mrs. Bhakta has led a discussion on clastic sediments of sand which are made up of clay minerals and quartz particles, with minor amounts of Feldspars, micas, and heavy minerals

To demonstrate how these sediments form layers that cement over time to form sedimentary rocks, the students created sand art representations.  The first layer they added represents the oldest layer and the foundation for each subsequent layer (new band of color deposited on top of the next).  As with nature, the layers are often disturbed and do not always form evenly as seen in their creations.

Winter Sports-Intramural Bowling Week One Update: Our Intramural Bowling League rolled a strike on Week one as 14 CSHS Bowlers hit the lanes in Boonton.  Week one was all about averages and rankings which will lead us into week two where we will start building our teams.  We will be bowling this Wednesday (March 2nd)  and then on the next two Wednesdays in March (March 9th and 16th).

Ordering  Lunch Delivery for April:

To register to place orders or to re-order,  go to

Just an FYI that next month (our April food orders), MyFoodDays will be adding a 99¢ per order processing fee.  Previously, this charge was only applied if an order was under $25.  Even with the fee, they are still the best deal in the online food ordering industry for schools.  If you have any questions, reach out to our  Lunch Program Chair and Parent, Amanda Jahn at

Craig School Emergency Contact System:  The Craig School uses a multi-tiered communication system that provides to our families, the highest level of certainty that you are made aware of any change in the opening or closing status of Craig Lower Middle School and Craig High.  Our various communication tiers include:

  • Craig Notification Call System:  The Craig Notification call is a voice activated system so you need to say HELLO once and allow the system to activate.  If you say HELLO followed by another HELLO in rapid succession, the system will not activate and not start the recorded message.  If you are unable to take the call, it will leave a message.
  • School Email Blast:  We will send out an email blast to all of our families and students.  Keep in mind that emails are dependent on the internet so if that’s down, so are emails.
  • Text  Dr. Cap:  As a last resort to check school status, you can always text Dr. Cap at (973)534-9054.
