Our students are amazing! In addition to 100% return on our covid tests, they just haven’t missed a beat. Using their mask breaks, respecting social distance during lunch and break, just confirms their resilience and that they will do what it takes to be together each and every day. Just a reminder that each Monday, we will be sending home the covid test with your teen and each Tuesday, we will be collecting them upon their arrival at school. This will be our routine until the state of NJ is back in the yellow in our CALI scores (Covid Activity Level Index). We have faith that that will be sooner than later but we will keep you posted.
As we get ready to wrap up January and welcome February, it might be a good time to re-introduce our “Change of School Status” Communication Systems in preparation for our annual NJ Winter. We also are ready to introduce our basketball season practice plan and provide an opportunity for our students to hear about designing their very own high school class rings! Lastly, check out our outdoor all students group picture in our photo gallery that we took upon our return last week and know that they are smiling underneath those masks!

Class of 2022 Senior Parents “Childhood Pics of the Class of 2022” Request: The Craig High yearbook committee has been busy putting together this year's yearbook, and we need our 12th grade parents to help to make it the best ever! Our yearbook committee would like to remind our senior parents to submit 3 to 5 childhood pictures of their future graduate to be included in our senior pages. All photos should be emailed as a jpeg to Mrs. Tartaglia at ktartaglia@craigschool.org by no later than January 28th. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to Mrs. T. We so appreciate your help in making this year's yearbook a success! Thank you from Mrs. T and the Yearbook Committee
High School-Class Rings 2021: This week, our Josten ring sales rep will be on campus. He will be handing out order booklets and walking students through how to design their very own high school class rings online. He also might surprise them with a Super Bowl ring that they can check out as Josten is the official ring of the NFL!
Last year, two of our former seniors, Gianfranco and Henry, designed their very own Class of 2021 Graduation Rings. Using the Josten Rings website, they chose everything from the inscriptions to the center stone. Both rings include the Craig High name, their favorite sport (both love hoops!). Franco went with his Zodiac symbol and Henry went with the school mascot of the Badger. Check out our photo gallery to see their masterpieces.
High School Student Spotlight
Craig High Freshman, Mary Pursues Girl Scout Gold Award: Freshman, Mary began her Girl Scouts journey in kindergarten when she joined the local Daisies troop with her sister. Next she progressed to Brownies then to Juniors where Mary received her Bronze Award, the highest honor in girl scouts for Juniors. To receive this award, Mary needed to complete a “Take Action” project in her community. Her chosen project involved using alpaca fur to make toys for animals. These unique and special toys were then donated to dogs & cats in local animal shelters.
When she was in middle school, she progressed to a Cadette and received her Silver Award. Her silver award project involved service dogs. She spent time at the Seeing Eye Headquarters in Morristown learning about therapy dogs as well as with a K9 unit at the local police department. Mary and her troop took all of these experiences and worked together to create a website and a slideshow promoting these special animals and the services they provide. In addition, they also designed a bulletin board about service dogs which was put on display at their local library.
Now that Mary is in high school, she has achieved the rank of Senior and has begun the initial stages of working on her Gold Award. The Gold Award is the highest achievement honor bestowed in the Girl Scouts. For her Gold Award “Take Action” Project, Mary plans on educating others on the topic of learning disabilities. She has taken her first project steps by completing a series of online training sessions with other Girl Scouts pursuing their Gold Award across the US. In addition to the online training, Mary is reading a memoir called Most Unlikely to Succeed by Nelson Lauver as a component of her project research. We look forward to hearing more about Mary’s project as she works to advocate for LD students and become the first Craig School High School Gold Award recipient ever!
