Craig School New Jersey

HS Week of January 3rd

Leading Us Into the New Year 2022
It’s another trimester for the record books! In this week's newsletter, we close out 2021 with an alumni update to make you smile, our Ugly Sweater and Phovember Picture contest winners in our photo gallery, the wrap up of our toy drive and our tailgate league and the start of our hoops season.

As we get ready to head off into our holiday break, we can’t help but be so thankful for our ability as a school community to come together and provide to each other a sense of routine and normalcy. On that note, we wish you a wonderful holiday break and we will see you in the New Year!

COVID Testing after holiday gatherings and before coming back to school in January:  We are asking students get tested for COVID after holiday gatherings and before coming back to school in January. While this is not a required action for return from Winter break, to keep our students learning where they learn best, that is, in-person and in-school, we are strongly encouraging you to take this precaution and do the following toward the end of our Winter break:

  • Get tested for COVID with an at-home test, a PCR test, or a rapid test 3-5 days after a gathering with family or friends. Go to for testing sites.
  • If you receive a positive test result contact your child’s division director, Janet Cozine, Lower and Middle School Director or Dr. Eric Caparulo, High School Director, and division nurse, Ellen Meisenbacher, Lower and Middle School Nurse, and Deborah Mershimer, High School Nurse, for next steps

As you also know, we are in the throes of flu season and faced with a new COVID variant. In addition to getting a flu shot, it is more important now than ever to get your child vaccinated.

National Honor Society Wraps Up Toy Collection for Area Children:  The  National Honors Society in partnership with the Craig Middle School Leadership Council wrapped up its December toy drive.

Thanks to our amazing Craig Community of teachers and parents, CSHS was able to donate 39 gifts that are going to bring some wonderful holiday cheer to some boys and girls in Denville.  Some of the very cool gifts included Yoda Pillow, a Light Up Diary, Lazer Maze, Spray Art AirBrush, Quadcopter Drone, and A Robot Arm Construction set!  Special thank you to our Director of College Counseling, Ms. Skerker, and our NHS for taking point on this worthwhile endeavor.

Alumni Updates Class of 2021 Grady Teaching PE:  We recently reached out to our  Class of 2021 to check in and we caught up with Grady to see how he is doing.  He shared that did get that job at YMCA as a camp counselor at the lake over the summer where he gained a lot of confidence in himself and being a member of a team.  They liked him so much that they asked Grady to stay on and continue working in their after-care program throughout the school year which he is doing now and getting paid!  His days on M-F are long ones.  The bus picks him up at 7 am, takes him over to West Orange High where he attends a job skills program each morning.  He shared that recently he was learning about worker’s rights, over time, what is an appropriate conversation to have in the workplace.  He has an early lunch and then goes to his job at the school.  Currently, they have him in a job where he is assisting the gym teacher.  He’ll stay at that for a few months before they rotate him to another position.  He gets home around 2:30pm, grabs a quick snack, and quickly heads off to the Verona YMCA until 6pm.  Keep up the great work, Grady!  We are so proud of you.

Dear Craig Families,

The Craig Lower, Middle, and High School are excited to provide our community with a new and exciting outlet for artistic expression. Headed by Mrs. Miller but most importantly driven by our student body, we would like to announce that our first Literary Magazine is in the works.

As we get started, we need YOU to make this a successful addition to our two campuses! Our magazine will showcase superior works of art including poems, essays, journal entries, screenplays, photography, and drawing submitted by our Craig students. Our goal is to provide students a special place to publish their most prized pieces of literature and art. Please encourage your child to participate in this venture.

The Literary Magazine will be published each June. All student submissions are due March 1st, 2022. However, we encourage submission as works are completed. We ask that all handwritten and typed submissions be previously edited by a guardian. With that being said, it is important that we honor where our students are in their writing, development, & education. We aren’t looking for perfect; we are looking for creativity, innovation, originality, and above all to foster the love of artistic expression!

Finally, we will hold an art contest for our cover page. Please have your art submitted to our group by March 1st. Our magazine name will be created and voted on by our club, but suggestions are always welcome.

We look forward to your participation!

Best regards,

Mrs. Brielle Miller

Thank You PACS for our “Trimester Treats”:  A few years back, a parent slapped a few words of inspiration on a Rice Krispie treat to wish their teen good luck on their trimester exams and the rest, as they say, is history!  Our PACS continued that tradition this past trimester and turned it into a community event with our parents providing the snack, PACS providing the words of inspiration, and our students providing the eating and inspiration heading into each of their recent trimester exams!  Thank you to PACS and all of our parents that made our week of exams a little less stressful and a whole lot tastier!

Log onto our store, browse our items, order for your student and your family and The Craig School receives 20% of the order! All of the proceeds from this go towards the community events that we have planned throughout the year for you and your students to enjoy!

PACS Executive Committee information along with membership forms are on our website.

It is not too late to join our membership drive, please email Angelina Bright, PACS PRESIDENT at

Tailgate League Wraps up Winter Season:  Craig High School wrapped up its first intramural tailgate league prior to winter break.  Four teams competed for this year's Cornhole crown and when the last bean bag was tossed, one team stood above the rest: The Runner’s with Ms. Crum and league MVP, freshman Mary.  In order to take that first crown, they had to get through Team Bulletproof led by Sophomores Evan and Peter who took 2nd place overall.  Penguin’s II and Chuck Norris’s Nephews (not to be confused with Chuck Norris’s Kids from Week 1!).  The teams competed in a round-robin-style tournament where they chose what tailgate games to compete in.  Game choices included Kan Jam, Cornhole, Ladder Toss, and our latest tailgate edition, Frisbee Knockoff.

Basketball Season 2022:  Upon our return from holiday break, Coach Norton will hold a basketball information session for all interested players.  We are currently finalizing our practice and game schedule with the goal of starting our practice season the week of January 10th.  Practices will be each Tuesday from 3-4:30 PM at the  gym.  We will share the specifics when we return from the holiday break.  Any hoops questions, email Coach Norton at
