This week’s Craig School High School newsletter will lead us into Thanksgiving Break and with that we would like to share a few things that we are thankful for. We are thankful for our students, their uniqueness and contagious optimism. We are thankful for our teachers, their enduring commitment and positive energy. We are thankful to you, our parents, for your unwavering trust and collaborative partnership. If our paths or emails don’t cross before Thanksgiving break, we would like to take this opportunity to wish you and yours a wonderful, family filled Thanksgiving!

9th Grader Madison Volunteers at the Nottingham Retirement Community Center: An important part of the CSHS program is Community Service. Each student is required to complete 10 hours annually and those hours can be completed internally, externally, or a combination of both. We are proud to spotlight one of our 9th graders who volunteered her time at a retirement center in Syracuse, NY. Madison spent her community service time delivering mail and assisting the residents of Nottingham in both the Memory Care and Assisted Living Units through activities and exercises. And as an added bonus, she got to visit Grandma who is a member of the Nottingham community.
Class of 2021 Alumni Spotlight-Jessica Pursues Lands a Position in Early Childhood Education: CSHS Class of 2021 Alum, Jessica landed a summer gig right after graduation at Kinder-Prep that turned into a full year position. Her role at Kinder Prep is as an assistant teacher. She works with little ones ranging from infant to kindergarten and her daily responsibilities include morning drop off and learning the little students to their classrooms. She spends the rest of her mornings supporting the classroom teacher anyway she is asked.
In the afternoon, she supervises and supports playtime and helps the little ones organize for the end of their day. On the weekends, she volunteers at St. Hubert's Animal Shelter where she works in the cattery which houses 20-30 cats and kittens.

Earth Science Lab-Crystal Formations: In Mrs. Bhakta’s Earth Science class, our 9th graders are currently learning about crystals. One of the ways crystals can form is when they are in a supersaturated solution. To demonstrate this, they made rock candy. Students helped stir the solution that required 15 cups of sugar and 3 ½ cups of water. They then set up their jars with the solution and the color of choice and observed them take shape over the course of two weeks. The lab results as you can see in our picture gallery are pretty amazing!
Cornhole Afterschool Tourney 2021: We are excited to announce our first ever CSHS Cornhole Tournament or as those in the professional Cornhole leagues call it, a “Cornament”! It will be after school from 3-4:30PM on the two consecutive Tuesdays leading up to our December Holiday Break (Tues Dec. 7th and Tues. Dec 14th). Week one will follow a round robin format where all of our teams of two will have an opportunity to get a sense of the other teams. Week two will be our official “Cornament” which will follow a single-elimination format and the rules of the American Cornhole Association (ACA). There will be food, drink, and prizes on tournament day.
Tuesday, November 30th, is GivingTuesday! In honor of this special day, we are asking all students, faculty and staff to wear their Craig Gear!
