Dear Craig Families,
This week the teachers and I started organizing the various technology tools each department uses for online instruction. It’s amazing that a year ago none of the educational technology that we currently use even entered our minds during lesson planning. Teachers who were already masters of their craft needed to learn a new language. It speaks volumes about the dedicated educators we have at The Craig School. Instead of being stymied by online education, the teachers have taught themselves positive alternatives. When your students are not in your classroom live to view the whiteboard, Jamboard will get the concepts across on the screen. What do you do when you need to give out worksheets for your online class? The teachers use Kami not only for the completion of the worksheet -like pages but for highlighting and annotating text. On top of a full schedule of classes, Craig teachers have created short tutorials for students, parents and even fellow staff members using Screencastify. Did you know that something as simple as Tab-resizing on the computer will allow you to present and see students at the same time?
Multisensory concepts used in Orton instruction are still being delivered using wordwall.net and Seesaw among many others. Who would have known that virtual math manipulatives were even in existence? Virtual fraction strips, virtual money pieces and even virtual base ten blocks are being used regularly during online instruction.
The Craig teachers leave no stone unturned. Their commitment to the education of your children is ongoing. They not only devote their time developing robust lessons around the content they teach, but now the COVID world has placed them in a position of developing that instruction through an entirely new educational platform. Thank you Craig Teachers!
