Dear Craig School Families,
On Tuesday the eighth graders began their end of the year celebration with a full day hike through the Tourne. COVID is not going to rain on their parade. Rather than being disappointed that they were unable to have the Philadelphia trip as Craig eighth grade classes have done in years past, they happily embraced the concept of day trips. This eighth grade group looks forward to starting a new Craig tradition.
The hike route was thoughtfully mapped out by Mr. Furlong who calculated the nice balance of rest stops during their 9 mile hike. Extra attention needed to be taken to make sure that the 10:30 morning announcements were still broadcasted, but this time at scenic Birchwood Lake.
As the eighth graders worked through more difficult trails, some pulled out towels to take a sunbathing break. Students took the opportunity not only to enjoy each other’s company, but to appreciate the beauty of all that was around them.
Midway through the day, everyone stopped at the playground and pavilion for a special pizza lunch. After allowing the students to select any type of pizza they wanted, there was a resounding “Plain”. If I was on the hike it would certainly have been Hawaiian. Dr. Loftin provided special treats of ice cream and italian ice to cool down our happy hikers before their grand finale, the De Camp trail. The students were aware that this was a very steep trail, but they would be rewarded with a spectacular view of the New York skyline. Even Mrs. Butter who also chaperoned was a bit leery, but the challenge was accepted. Everyone made it to the top and enjoyed the spectacular view. Were they tired? Absolutely, but everyone was happy. The whole day was such a positive team building experience. A special thank you goes out to Mr. Furlong and Mrs. Butter for taking the time to make sure the day was extraordinary.
. Next week we launch a trip to Great Adventure. Fingers crossed, no rain.

MR. FINNS SCIENCE CLASS
The butterfly release was the final wrap-up for our life cycles unit in 2nd and 3rd grade this year. We raised caterpillars 35 caterpillars that started around half of an inch in length. Each student had their own caterpillar and we learned about the life cycle of painted lady butterflies as they grew from small to large caterpillars, crystallized, and then emerged as butterflies. In total we observed and completed a work packet on the organism over the course of three weeks.

The Craig School’s Annual
Tuesday, June 15th.
This year we have created an event that everyone can enjoy. We are incredibly excited about this opportunity to gather together in support of Craig. Here are some ways that you can help to make this our most successful event to date:
GOLF: Sign up to golf at Ballyowen on Tuesday, June 15th. Bring your friends, bring your neighbor, bring your brother or sister and join us for lunch, golf and dinner!
DINNER: If you have previous commitments during the day, head to Ballyowen for dinner and the opportunity to meet new friends.
TEE BOX SPONSOR: If none of these options work out for you, sponsor a Tee Box which will be displayed on the course during the day. It’s a great way to honor a Craig School teacher or faculty member or even proudly flaunt the name of your student or graduate.
AMAZON WISHLIST: Purchasing items from our Amazon Wish List is always a fun and easy way to contribute to the fundraiser. You’ll be amazed at how your Amazon donations get transformed into fun packages that result in lots of bidding!
As the date of the Annual Golf Outing/Auction gets closer we will have an online auction that all can participate in. You’ll be able to bid on an assortment of items while at Ballyowen or from the comfort of your home.
Thank you and I hope to see you up at Ballyowen on Tuesday, June 15th!
If you have any questions or would like to be more involved, please contact me at email@example.com or 973.334.1295 ext. 229.
