Dear Craig School Families,
For over thirty years the Craig School has integrated ski trips into their academic calendar.
Our first twilight ski was last Friday night. The weather couldn't have been better. There were sixty-seven Craig lift tickets sold. Many entire families came up, even if it was a new life experience. Putting a pair of skis on for the first time can be a daunting thought, as well as, "Will I be able to get on and off that chair lift?" Yet, historically by the end of the day, those beginning skiers are so proud of their accomplishment. Many of our students get the “bug” at that point and can't wait for the next time they get to “hit the slopes”.
For our Craig families, the next time is today, February 18th. Apart from its natural lure what other benefits are there? Our students feel immensely proud, no matter what level they have skied at - they are very aware of their achievements. It provides a boost to their confidence and a greater belief in their own ability. It also provides a great opportunity for the Craig community to come together outside the school walls.

Sincerely,
Janet Cozine

High School News
CSHS Joins Global Citizenship Challenge 2022: A group of CSHS students joined high school students from around the world in the Your Big Year’s Global Citizens Challenge 2022 this past week. Day One of the Global Conference was a worldwide welcome Zoom session where our students heard from tourism industry leaders, joined a huge conference-wide “Whatsapp” group chat with student reps from around the globe, and experienced a new virtual platform called Miro, an online “whiteboard” for visual collaboration. On Day Two, our students took part in a Zoom “Pen Pal” where a conference advisor led small groups through dynamic activities to learn more about each other’s countries, cultures, and places they hope to travel to one day!
Some of our conference highlights included our very own Josh finding Josh’s from around the world to chat with. 10th grader Grace shared that she enjoyed being part of a diverse cultural experience while meeting others her age with similar interests and hobbies. Congratulations to all of our students that represented CSHS, our Director of College Counseling, Ms. Skerker, for taking point and guiding our students, and many thanks to Craig 8th Grade parent, Mrs. Jackie Wolf for connecting us with this amazing opportunity!

Ms. Pascarella’s seventh-grade students have been participating in and completing an Olympic Luge Result Activity. Students watched the first run of the women’s Olympic Luge event during class and completed a chart designed for students to record each luger’s run time, as well as each luger’s six check-in times. Based on the check-in times, students were able to make conclusions and predictions about each luger and their correct place in the standings. Students were able to round positive and negative decimals to the nearest tenth, and hundredth when possible. This activity assisted and supported students’ mathematical learning of both positive and negative numbers, as well as rounding and place value. Additionally, this activity serves as a reinforcement of the presented mathematical topics and ideas, which will benefit students’ retention and lead to a deeper and worthwhile mathematical learning and understanding.

Birthdays: Please note:
We understand that some children want to share a “birthday treat” with their classmates on their special day. If you are planning to have your child bring food items into school for sharing please abide by the following:
Treats will be shared at snack time or homeroom (at the teacher’s discretion) and not during lunchtime or recess. We have more than one group-and sometimes grade- together at those times and it is difficult to single out only certain children for the treat while others are present.
If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Ellen Meisenbacher at emeisenbacher@craigschool.org
Thank you for understanding.
If you have any questions regarding the program, please contact Mary Calvano at mcalvano@craigschool.org.
