I am constantly reminded that there are always folks who are helping others- for the benefit of everyone else except themselves- or at least that is how it appears. Two examples today and then a challenge for all of us. First, this time of year, there are numerous events- some are annual, and some are “one-time events”. In our Blue House, beginning in April, several volunteers come into the building to help as we prepare for the Auction. These volunteers get nothing more out of volunteering than helping- or at least that is how it appears. The second example is when we help people as a need arises. Years ago, someone that I know was given an award that was basically for always asking others “How can I help?” The purpose was only to award those who went out of their way. I think the expression is “Random Acts of Kindness”. As our students leave school in a few weeks for summer break, I hope they help around their home, community, and with their friends- randomly. I would enjoy having conversations with our students about how they have voluntarily helped others upon our return or when I see students during our Summer programs.
