When you have a school like Craig, there are many people who remind us daily that being chronically disorganized, such as starting your day not being able to find things, forgetting homework, running to the bus late- can cause lots of frustration and fear among the students. Teachers and parents share these feelings as well as the frustration. For a few in our school basic organizational skills may seem easy, but not everyone develops them naturally. We know that helping our students with organizational skills, aka executive functioning, and strategies does make a difference. For students who joined Craig this year, I know that since September there have been ‘leaps and bounds’ for almost all of them. Parents tell us. Students tell us. We get good grades! For the students who have been with us for longer, we know that our organizational systems have taken root. With the last weeks of this year just ahead of us, I hope we all celebrate in the strides we have all made in this area of organization and repetitive actions that can help us be successful.
