CHS Student Spotlight

CHS Junior Jacob Lesch

CHS Junior Jacob Lesch Earns His Eagle Scout Badge: CHS Junior, Jacob Lesch was honored this past month to acknowledge and celebrate the completion of the Eagle Scout requirements and his earning of his Eagle Scout badge. Only 4% of all scouts earn their Eagle Scout and Jacob is one of them! It was an amazing ceremony filled with family, friends and all of the members of Troop 159 or West Milford which Jacob has been a member for the past 10 years.
Jacob earned 20 merit badges on his way to Eagle and his Eagle Scout project was the creation and completion of a mobile library for the Garden Academy in West Orange where two of Jacob’s brothers attend. Jacob set out to collect 800 books to start this library and ended up with over 3500! Because of this, Jacob was able to support a number of teachers and other schools including schools in Texas who were impacted by Hurricane Harvey. We are so proud of Jacob and are honored that he is a member of our school community!

Badgers Hoops on Two Game Winning Streak:  The Badgers couldn’t have picked a better time in the season to put together a winning streak that give their playoff hopes new life.  The streak began on the road versus Calais High of Whippany.  Calais beat CHS in last year’s Championship game so it was a sweet victory for Coach Norton and the Badgers.  The Badgers trailed the entire game until the last 30 seconds of the game. Down by 1 with 45 seconds left, Senior Captain David Altman made a great steal which led to a fast break where, after a long rebound scrum Ben Flayderman came up with the ball and was fouled. After missing his previous two foul shots earlier in the game, “Big Ben” sank both foul shots to give Craig High the last second win.   CJ Gizzi lead the Badgers with 13 points while Flayderman lead the team with 14 rebounds and 8 points while Freshman, Derek Veal pulled off the double-double with 11 rebounds and 10 points.

This past week, CHS took on Cornerstone High in the confines of the BHS Gym.  The 35-26 victory evened the Badgers record at 2-2 on the season.  Sophomore Jarod Christern led the team with points with a career high of 8 points and 7 rebounds, followed by Maya Wicki with 6 points.  CHS’s defense was led by senior captain David Altman who also chipped in with 4 points.  CHS Big Men played a big role in the win as junior Ben Flayderman pulled down 8 rebounds and 4added  points and freshman Derek Veal had 11 rebounds and 6 points. And to only make the victory sweeter, sophomore Henry Borner DuCane scored his first career hoop.  Congrats to Coach Norton and the CHS Badgers.
