Week of February 4th, 2019

Last week, CHS held its annual Stepping Out to Medieval Times.  For those that haven’t been to Medieval Times in a while, they have dropped both the ribs and the King and have changed up the story line.  We had the Green Knight once again and who some of our CHS young ladies dubbed Knight “McHotty”.  His flowing locks and good looks did not translate into his tournament skills and he was knocked out early.  But that did not take away our good time.  Below is a picture of our Medieval Crew.  This month, we will be heading to Camp Gaw for our annual Snow Tubing pilgrimage.

CHS Events
February Stepping Afterschool Out-Snow Tubing at Camp Gaw:  We have set Monday, Feb. 25th as the date for our annual pilgrimage to Camp Gaw in Mahwah (200 Campgaw Road)  for snow tubing.  We will leave right afterschool on that Monday and be back at CHS for pick up at 6:45PM.  There is no cost to students other than the concession stand for goodies.  Hats, gloves, and coats are a must.  To RSVP, parents must fill out the SNOWTUBING WAIVER form below (signed and initialed where necessary), print it, and submit it to the CHS main office-

BHS Invite-Annual Indoor Soccer Tourney-La Copa:  Calling all CHS Soccer Players! Every year inFebruary, the BHS Spanish and French Club’s sponsor an indoor soccer tourney know as “La Copa”.  It attracts a dozen BHS student teams and CHS has had a team in this tourney every year.  We are looking to put together our 2019 squad.  La Copa will be held on Thursday, Feb. 28th right afterschool until about 5:30PM.  It is a tournament style format where we are guaranteed 3-4 games.  Students are also welcome to stay after just to cheer on “Los Tejones” (“The Badgers” in Spanish).

CHS Program Spotlight

CHS Physics-Answers the Question-How Much Horsepower Can a Student Generate?: Have you ever wondered how much horsepower/Watts your teen can generate? Wonder no more!  Mr. Simpson and his 12th grade Physics Classes did an experiment where students ran up a flight of stairs and they calculated the power output they produced.  One student managed to get to a height of 2.76 meters in two seconds. By using his mass and the formulas for work and power, they were able to calculate that he generated 759 Watt of power, enough to run a 50: TV or your blender for a couple minutes!. In Imperial Units/Lawn Mower Terms, he produced just a little over one horsepower.

Badgers Battle Back Against Winston Prep:  Windsor Prep made the trek down from Bergen County to take on the Badgers last week.  The game was a back and forth affair that ultimately ended in a narrow Windsor Prep victory.  CHS Junior, CJ Gizzi lead Craig High with his most impressive day beyond the arc with 4 three pointers and ended the day with 15 points. Maya Wicki led the CHS defensive assault holding Windsor Prep’s leading scorer to 6 points. In the absence of starting center Ben Flayderman, freshman Derek Zeal stepped up with 12 rebounds and 7 points. Senior captain David Altman had a career scoring day putting up 5 points. Junior Jacob Raff also had an impressive game on the boards with 6 rebounds. Next week the Badgers are on the road as they head to Whippany to take on Calais High.

CHS Reminders

Craig School Chili Throwdown NEWS: The countdown to the Craig School “Chili Throwdown” stands at 487 hours and counting!  On Saturday, Feb. 23rd on our Lower-Middle School Campus (15 Tower Hill Road) in Mountain Lakes from 11-1PM it will be happening. Start testing out your chili recipies, cleaning off your chili tasting spoon, and get ready for some good old fashioned Craig School Community fun.

And remember, it’s not a community event if you aren’t part of it.  We are looking for some solid CHS family representation so if you want a shot at taking down Dr. Cap’s award winning turkey chili or Mrs. Cap’s defending Vegetarian Chili, we will see you on 23rd!

CHS Community Service-Saturday Basketball in Mountain Lakes:  Saturday morning basketball is open to all CHS students. We are looking for volunteers to help run drills, ref games, and just be an all around encouraging role model to all of our younger students! Students can sign up for one or all Saturdays.  The dates are Feb 23, March 2, 16, and 23.  The time is 9AM to 11AM.  The place is the Reeth-Furlong Gym on our LS-MS Campus in Mountain Lakes. Students should see Dr. Cap if interested.
Craig High Pet Wall Renovations:  We are still collecting pictures of your family pet/pets for our Pet Wall Renovations.  Pictures can be sent in or emailed to Dr. Cap (ECaparulo@craigschool.org).  Include with a picture the name of the pet and they will have a place in CHS immortality!  And your teen can visit the wall for inspiration and to get a quick smile anytime they would like!
