CHS Teacher Spotlights

“What My Teachers Are Reading” Signs at CHS:  Some of the best ideas are ones that we borrow from others and we are excited to share one that a CHS parent shared with us.  She told us that at her daughter’s school, the teachers post signs outside their classroom doors with what they are currently reading.

In our never ending battle to encourage reading, we thought what a great idea!  Not only does it promote the idea of reading, it gives our students insights into their teachers through what books they are reading when they are not teaching.  It also conveys the elusive concept of reading for pleasure and that we teachers have a lot more in common with our students than what they might think!  Our teachers reading choices are as diverse as our students reading choices, ranging from non-fiction to NY Times best sellers and such topics such as finance, science, fantasy, horror, and the occasional tear-jerker.  Most teachers have the name of the book along with a picture of the book cover.  Next time you’re at the school, take a look outside our teacher’s doors. You might be surprised how much we have in common with you!

CHS Events

SAVE THE DATE Craig High School College Fair 2018-Wednesday, April 3rdWe would like to extend a personal invitation to all of the parents and students of Craig High to join us for one of our most prominent and celebrated community events of our school year – The Craig High School-Boonton High School College and Post-Secondary Fair.  This is our 13th year hosting this event and each year it has grown both in the number of colleges attending and the number of families and students that join us for the evening.
Like Craig High, our college fair specializes in programs that are specific to supporting students with learning disabilities.  This year we are expecting over 30 colleges and post-secondary programs to be represented.

These programs were hand-picked to be a part of our college fair based on the strength of their comprehensive academic programs for students with learning disabilities, the disabilities services, and accommodations that are accessible, the reputation and quality of education they provide, and the variety of majors and on-campus activities that are available.

We are expecting over 200 families from the Craig School and the Boonton/Lincoln Park communities to join us on Wednesday, April 3rd anytime between 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm in the Boonton High School Main Gym. Parking will be behind the Boonton High near the turf field and track. No RSVP’s are required, just show up and feel free to bring a friend. For more information and a list of colleges that will be attending go to https://www.craigschool.org/happenings/college-fair-2019-attendees/

CHS Auction Update

Annual CHS Parent Gift: Our Spring Auction, "One Giant Leap", is just a couple months away (Saturday, May 18th at the The Knoll East Country Club in Lake Hiawatha) and as a CHS Tradition, we have become know for our one big great community gift to the auction. Last year's CHS gift, Elton John tickets, were one of the most sought after-highly contested bidding wars at the auction yielding for Craig over three times their face value!

This year we are looking to create a Washington, DC trip which includes hotel stay, event tickets, restaurant gift cards and admission to various museums tying into the 50th anniversary of the moon walk! We are asking for a$50, however any amount, either more or less, will help us continue this awesome tradition that ultimately supports everything we do at CHS.  All checks should be made payable to the Craig School and submitted by Friday April 5th to the CHS Main Office.  You can also donate through Pay Pal (Pay Pal toamandajahn77@gmail.com) or Venmo (Venmo to Amanda-Jahn-3).

Donating Items to the Craig School Auction:  Looking to help out with our biggest fundraiser of the year and not sure how to do so? Well, look no further! We’re looking for donations of all kinds – items, cash, experiences, and your time as we work to make this year’s auction our most successful auction yet!

Is your family a season ticket holder for one of our local teams and, if so, would you be able to donate tickets to a game? Do you have a vacation home that you’d be willing to allow a Craig family to use to raise money for our school? Did you get an extra Amazon Echo for your birthday that you don’t want? Do you have a favorite restaurant that you frequent that you may be able to ask for a gift certificate? Are you interested in volunteering to put together the donations once all the items have been received at Craig? There are so many ways to help make “One Giant Leap” a success and all help is welcome and appreciated. More information on that to follow! In the meantime, if you have any questions about auction donations, please email CHS PACS  reps Debbie Sammon and Lorie Acciarito at djsammon@optonline.net and lorie.acciarito@live.com

CHS Reminders

CHS Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences, Next Week (W-Fr, March 27-29): CHS will be hosting our Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences.  If you haven’t already, call or email Mrs. Maas to see what time blocks and days are still available (DMaas@craigschool.org or (973)334-1234For those parents whose schedule doesn’t allow you to attend, you also have the option of a phone conference. Let Mrs. Maas know this and provide her with a phone number and time within our conference blocks that teachers can touch base.

CHS Summer Academy 2019 (July 8-August 2): Sign ups for the CHS Summer Academy are under way. The Craig High School Summer Academy is held at CHS during the month of July/early August and offers a personal and dynamic 4-week high school academic program that promotes and continues to build organizational, note-taking, and research skills. There are also opportunities for students to work on and in most cases, complete their summer reading assignments as well. Summer courses include Literature, Writing, Math, and Multi-Media Presentations.  The program is Monday through Thursdays, 8:50AM-12PM and starts early July (July 8) and runs through the first week in August (August 1).

Parents who are interested must fill out a registration form (https://www.craigschool.org/academics/high-school/summer-programs/) from the website so that our admission office can secure your teen a place even if your district covers the tuition for summer.
