Speech & Language
Speech and Language services at The Craig School are offered individually or in small group sessions with on-campus speech-language pathologists. The program provides students with evidence-based strategies that are directly related to the curriculum as well as to real-life situations, building upon their communication skills while strengthening self-awareness and self-esteem in the process.
At The Craig School, speech and language pathologists take a collaborative approach to addressing students' educational growth by working hand in hand with classroom teachers. Through this collaboration, they support students' ability to generalize and transfer newly acquired expressive and receptive language skills — playing an essential role in a comprehensive educational program designed specifically to address the needs of students with language-based learning disabilities.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy at The Craig School benefits students with language-based learning disabilities and attentional difficulties. On-campus occupational therapists work with students in a private therapy setting, or they push into the classroom environment — meeting students where learning actually happens.
Occupational therapists use strategies, interventions, adaptations, and innovative techniques to improve students' fine motor skills, motor coordination, visual perceptual skills, executive functioning skills, and sensory processing skills. They also recommend sensory tools for students who have difficulties focusing in the classroom.
Through careful observation and ongoing consultation with teachers, our occupational therapists develop practical, optimal strategies uniquely tailored to each student's profile — going beyond the therapy room to observe students during every part of their school day.
