LS / MS NEWSLETTER- End of Year

THE CRAIG SCHOOL

WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
Message from the Director

Dear Badger Families,

As we bring this school year to a close, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve shared and to thank you sincerely for your unwavering support and partnership. It has been a year of growth, learning, and countless meaningful moments.

Our students have shown remarkable dedication, meeting challenges with resilience, grace, and determination. Beyond academic success, they’ve demonstrated empathy, kindness, and a commitment to building a stronger school community. These accomplishments would not have been possible without the encouragement and involvement of our families—your role in their success is deeply valued.

I am so proud of the progress our students have made. From classroom milestones and creative achievements to athletic victories and impactful community service, they have truly embodied the spirit of a Craig School Badger.

I also want to express heartfelt gratitude to our incredible teachers and staff. Their dedication, creativity, and care have created a learning environment where students are challenged, supported, and inspired every day.

As we head into summer break, I encourage you to keep the spirit of learning alive at home. Whether it’s diving into a new book, exploring the outdoors, or working together on a family project, these experiences continue to spark curiosity, creativity, and connection.

We’re already looking ahead and eagerly planning for the upcoming school year. A few important dates are included below to help you begin preparing for the fall. If you would like to meet over the summer, please email me and we will set up a time.

Thank you again for your continued trust and support. Wishing you and your family a joyful, restful, and memorable summer!

With Badger Pride,
Jen Guthrie

BUSINESS OFFICE

This year, the Business Office has been hard at work supporting the daily operations that keep our school running smoothly. Our team manages a wide range of responsibilities, including finance, human resources, and oversight of our buildings and grounds.

On the financial side, we continued to handle budgeting, tuition processing, accounts payable, payroll, tax filings, and audit preparation. In human resources, we supported staff onboarding, managed benefits, and ensured compliance with employment policies and procedures.

A major highlight this year was the successful renovation of our Henderson Building. This large-scale project was a true team effort, requiring careful planning, coordination with our architect and contractors, and close attention to budget and timelines. The result is a beautifully updated space that will serve our students and faculty for years to come.

We’re proud of what’s been accomplished and look forward to continuing to support the school’s mission behind the scenes!

Thank you,

Jackie Veliky

ATHLETICS
Hello Badgers!
What a great year! We started back in September with the "Welcome Back BBQ" and rolled from there!  Unfortunately, while the weather hindered our annual drive-in experience again, our "Chili Throw-Down" got the community out in force, with many alumni participating and taking home awards. We had a record number of attendees at our annual Alumni Night and basketball event.  During the winter months, we enjoyed the cold outdoors with some skiing and snowboarding, and then back indoors for an amazing "STEM NIGHT".  Finishing off the year with our "Craig's Got Talent Show".  Not to mention, we also had many significant and extraordinary PACS-sponsored events. We thank all of the families for their support.
We also had record numbers participate in our sports program for the 2024-2025 school year. We offered fencing for all grades, a middle school co-ed soccer team, girls' and boys' basketball teams, a lacrosse clinic, and our first co-ed middle school volleyball team. Many of our students participated in 3 sports and earned the prestigious "Three Headed-Badger Award." For the first time in our school's history, we had multiple "Four Headed-Badger Award" recipients. We are so proud of our Badgers!
Enjoy your summer break, and we look forward to another great year ahead!

ADMISSIONS

We had a wonderful school year in admissions in 2024-2025. We opened the school year with 142 students, 32 of whom were new to our families. Since opening day, we’ve enrolled 7 new Badgers, bringing our total to 149 students schoolwide and exceeding our goal by 9 students. We are actively enrolling students for the 2025-2026 year throughout the summer and look forward to another great year. We are excited about our current projections for next year's High School enrollment, with 25 percent of our student body coming from outside our lower and middle school.  Prospective families are always left blown away by the warm and welcoming atmosphere at Craig, as well as the amazing student body and faculty. Thank you to all of our wonderful community members who help make Craig such a special place. Looking forward to another great school year in 2025-2026!

Thank you,

Kate Tartaglia

Advancement

As we close out the 2024–2025 school year and celebrate 45 Years of Positive Impact, we are humbled by the continued support of our Craig community. Thank you to the parents, past parents, grandparents, alumni, and friends who contributed to our Annual Giving Fund. Your support helps ensure Craig remains a place where students with learning disabilities can thrive.

There’s still time to give before our fiscal year ends on June 30, 2025.
Annual Giving Fund 24–25

This year, with the help of grants from foundations and trusts, we advanced several exciting initiatives:

  • STEAM Expansion: Our new hub in the Henderson Building will include 3D printers and computers for student exploration in graphic design and prototyping.
  • Robotics Club: Lower/Middle School students enthusiastically joined a new club introducing coding and engineering.
  • FM Speaker Systems: All new Lower/Middle School classrooms will feature updated sound amplification to enhance comprehension and engagement, especially for students with auditory processing challenges.
  • SEL Programming: We continued to prioritize social-emotional learning to support emotional growth and peer connection.
  • Capital Improvement Grants: Funding towards the Multi-Media Center furniture and building improvements.

We also celebrated the community through events like a modified Teacher Feature, open to all divisions - thank you to our faculty for making it so meaningful!

We ended the year with our 19th Annual Golf Outing, Dinner, and Auction - a day of camaraderie and purpose, with 112 golfers and many more supporters raising critical funds. Thank you to everyone who donated, sponsored, attended, or participated - we couldn’t have done it without you!

If you have connections to foundations or trusts that support education, special needs, or STEAM, we would be thrilled to hear from you. (Mary Calvano, mcalvano@craigschool.org)

Wishing you a restful, memory-filled summer, and thank you for being an essential part of the Craig community!
