Summer Academy provides an opportunity for Craig students and non-Craig Students with learning disabilities to continue to improve their organization, note-taking, and study skills in a safe, academic environment. Hands-on experience, creative expression, and co-operative learning.
The morning Academic Session is focused on academics, reinforcing skills and strategies.
The afternoon Enrichment Session is focused on social skills, art projects, environmental sessions and community field trips.
At the Craig School Summer Academy, the academic needs of the students are determined, and then an educational program is prescribed for each child. The focal point of a student’s instruction can range from learning more decoding skills, reinforcing skills learned during the school year, or preparing students for High School.
Following a morning of academics, students have the opportunity to stay for an afternoon enrichment session.
Groups can participate in movie making, art, swim and sports. We enjoy a variety of outdoor activities and travel for field trips.

The Craig High School Summer Academy is held at our Montville facility and offers a personal and dynamic 4-week high school academic program that promotes and builds organizational, note-taking, and research skills. In addition, it also provides our teens with a foundation of practical and effective content acquisition skills that allows them to become greater independent learners. There are also opportunities for students to work on and in most cases, complete their varied HS summer reading assignments.
In addition to Summer Academic morning program that takes place through the month of July, we offer an afternoon enrichment opportunity for our students that allows them to take on a role of responsibility and leadership as a Counselor-in-Training. Our CITs would be working alongside their HS peers and with direct supervision, be co-leading various activities from art to PE for our younger students.
For our high school students, it is an amazing and productive experience that bolsters their self-esteem and provides them with an essential social experience that allows them to continue to work on their social reasoning and expressive/receptive language skill set while under the guidance of certified Craig School educators.
Please note that there are different forms for current Craig students and for non-Craig students.
