As this week's newsletter( CHIL) was going to press, we are on our way back from Frost Valley.  We will have some great pictures and stories for you next week! 

This week, we start to prep for school picture day, which is this Thursday, October 23rd.  More info on ordering pictures is below, but the plan is that all of our students will have their pictures taken so that we can create student IDS for the new school year.  For many of our students, this is their first official picture ID, so it will come in handy beyond CHS.  That being said, we tell our students, if you are going to have to get your picture taken anyway, you might as well look good!  So on the WEDNESDAY before picture day, we will host our annual “Tie Tying” Clinic during end-of-the-day support.  Our students will learn to tie a tie, another skill that might come in handy down the road.  

Also, this week, after-school art starts up, our November Lunch Delivery Window is Open, our PACS is collecting candy for our annual CHS Halloween Bash (more info below), 1st trimester progress reports will be going live on the Craig School Parent Portal (Craig Parent Portal) by the end of day Thursday, Oct. 23rd, and we have a very special Career Awareness speaker joining us Friday.

Annual CHS Halloween Bash: “Great Pumpkin” Winners Announced and Halloween Costume Contest 

CHS Guest Speaker: Alum and Founder of Triple Threat Team Building, Mike Phillips - This Friday, we have a special guest speaker joining us. Mr. Mike Phillips attended Craig Middle School, graduated from Lynn University, and is the Founder and CEO of Triple Threat Team Building based in Palm Beach, FLA. 

He holds specialties in CrossFit-infused therapy, Adventure and Recreational Therapy, Nutrition, Psychodrama, and Motivational Interviewing.  He also sits on the Youth Sailing Foundation of the Palm Beaches and serves on the Craig School Board of Trustees.  When he’s not coaching CrossFit, training athletes, or holding team-building programs, you’ll probably find Mike out in nature—free diving, snorkeling, or mentoring young lacrosse players.  He will be sharing his career path from Craig to CEO and hosting a couple of team-building sessions during Friday PE classes. 

Picture Day THIS THURSDAY, October 23rd- Thursday, October 23rd is picture day at Craig High.  All of our students will have their pictures taken.   

Our 12th graders will have 2 different portraits taken - with and without a cap/gown.  A few days after picture day, all of our parents will receive an email link from JOSTENS PIX, which will allow you to view your teen's pictures, customize backgrounds, and choose among the various ordering options available.  Everything will be conveniently done online.   

We do have a picture retake day scheduled for later this month (Friday, Nov 14th) for any students who are absent or would just like a do-over. Any questions about picture day, reach out to our Picture Day Coordinator, Ms. Steinel at HSteinel@craigschool.org  

As part of the CHS Halloween Bash on October 31, students will go Trick or Treating around the school, and teachers will hand out their favorite candies. To make your contribution easier, we’ve added a wish list to the signup form. Simply click “Purchase,” and the candy will be shipped directly to the school! Feel free to purchase candy elsewhere. College Tours-CHS Visits FDU in Madison:  Last week, the students of CHS  headed out on their first off-campus college road trip to visit  Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU).  We spent the morning attending an info session on college life, accommodations, and supports.  We then toured the beautiful Florham Park/Madison campus, getting a little history on FDU, walking through an actual dorm room, and spending a little time in the Mansion! We wrapped up our visit with lunch at the FDU Student Dining Commons. And if that wasn’t awesome enough, we ran into three of our CHS grads who currently attend FDU! 

Badgers Bring Home the Hardware in Lincoln Park 5K:  Last weekend, our Badger runners made their way to Lincoln Park to run in the annual Octoberfest 5K and truly left their mark!  We had three Badgers all run their first official 5Ks and all three medaled in their age category. 

Freshman, Elijah, took 1st place in the 15-19 year old category, Juniors Mike B and Alex took the silver and the bronze!  And if that wasn’t awesome enough, CHS senior and Roxbury High Track member, Sivert, joined the Badgers for the run and took 1st place overall with a blistering time of 18:09, which puts him at a 5:51 per mile average.  Congrats to Coach Crum and the Badgers on an impressive 1st 5K of the season.

Badgers XC to Run in the Hammond Hustle 5K:  Runners from the CHS Cross Country will be joining over 150 fellow runners this Saturday, at 9:30 AM (race time at 10 AM) in the 5th annual Hammond Homebound Hustle 5K held in Central Park of Morris County (formerly known as Greystone), located in Parsippany-Troy Hills.  This event raises awareness and funds to combat homelessness and promote housing stability in Morris County.   Any guest runners want to join us, here is the link (HAMMOND HUSTLE 5K).

CHS Afterschool Art Studio Starts up THIS WEEK-WEDS, Oct 22nd:  Our Afterschool Art Studio starts up its Fall 4-week after-school art studio.  It is open to all students, and there is still time to sign up.  Our open studio series will meet starting this Wednesday, October 22nd, from 3-4:15 PM and then on the next three Weds (October 29, November 5, and 12).  Pick-up will be at the first-floor middle doors. Interested students should see Ms. Steinel (HSteinel@craigschool.org).
