Transition Programs

Transition Programs from Middle to High School through Postsecondary

Our Director of College Counseling & Transitions meets with our 7th and 8th-grade families to guide them through this process. Our goal is to support each family while helping students build self-advocacy skills to thrive in high school and beyond. We begin with a Transition Meeting each fall for all of our families, and then meet individually over the course of the school year.

We invite all of our 7th and 8th graders to participate in cross-campus adventures throughout the year. From our annual excursion to Frost Valley YMCA Camp in Upstate New York to various field trips, special events, and sports opportunities, our middle schoolers can get acclimated to Craig High School. 8th graders are invited to join our high school students for CPR/AED Training, museum trips, and art workshops.

Our 7th and 8th-grade students then participate in our College & Career Readiness course during the spring trimester elective cycle each school year. In this course, students begin learning about their strengths and passions. We also cover topics such as self-advocacy, time management and organization, study skills, independence, and various resources and support systems available on college campuses and in the workplace. Students will walk away with a better understanding of themselves while beginning to gain some preliminary knowledge about college and the workplace.

High School Transitions at Craig Lower/Middle School

Transitioning from middle school to high school is an exciting milestone, one that marks a time of growth, exploration, and new opportunities. Our Director of College Counseling & Transitions is dedicated to ensuring that each student and family feels supported and confident throughout this process. At The Craig School, we recognize that every student learns differently, so we take a highly personalized approach to high school planning and preparation. Through collaboration with teachers, parents, and support staff, we design transition plans that highlight each student’s individual strengths, address their specific learning needs, and set achievable goals for both academic and personal success.
