COMMUNITY NEWS

CHS Freshman, Joe B, Accepted into the Order of the Arrow

Congratulations to 9th grader Joe B on being accepted into the prestigious Order of the Arrow — Scouting’s national honor society that recognizes scouts who best exemplify the values of service, leadership, camping spirit, and dedication to helping others.

In addition to meeting all of the standards that are required for this level of scouting, those honored by the Order of the Arrow must be elected by their fellow Scouts — a true sign of the respect they have earned from their peers. His acceptance into this distinguished organization speaks volumes about the type of young man he is: dependable, hardworking, humble, and committed to making a positive impact on those around him. Joe plans on attending his induction in May.  We are incredibly proud of Joe for this well-earned honor, and believe it or not, this is only the beginning of many great accomplishments ahead for Joe.

Next up is earning his Eagle Scout ranking.  After 3 months of planning, multiple site visits,  and pulling together a team of 12 willing scouts and 10 adult volunteers, Joe cleared and refurbished an area of the South Mountain Conservatory.   The area was overgrown, and the surrounding walls were covered with graffiti.  Joe and his team cut down and removed all of the overgrown vegetation and repainted and repaired all of the walls.  Last up for Joe to earn his Eagle Scout is a final write-up on his project and two merit badges.  You got this, Joe!

CHS Esports Wraps Up Its Inaugural Season

Our two Badger Esports Squads closed out their first season in the GSE (Garden States Esports) Contenders League this past week.  Our teams were part of the Group 3 Central and Group 3 North Divisions and competed against HS Esports Teams from all over NJ, including Piscataway HS, Manchester Regional, Liberty HS of Jersey City, Pompton Lakes HS, Shawnee HS, and Southern Regional in Ocean County.  There were 80 teams in the Contenders League, and only 4 of those teams made it through league play undefeated, and we are proud to share that CHS was one of those teams!

Our team roster was made up of seven CHS students who have laid the foundation for CHS Esports for future gamers.  They include freshmen Cal and Elijah, sophomores Asher, Mike B, and Erin, and juniors Christian and Miles.  Under the guidance of Coach Pieri, our gamers will look to expand our esports program next year beyond Mario Kart and add a team to the Championship League.  We will keep you posted.  Congrats to Coacjh Pieri and our esports gamers on an amazing first season.
