Letter to Parents March 2, 2020

Dear Craig Parents/Guardians,

As we continue to monitor news about the Coronavirus (COVID-19), we want to assure you that we are preparing in the event the virus spreads to our area.  The Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a respiratory infection caused by a new virus that arose from Wuhan, China last December.  In those infected, it can lead to fever, cough and shortness of breath.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is working hard to learn as much as possible about this new virus, so that we can better understand how it spreads and how we can better protect ourselves.

According to the CDC, COVID-19 spreads mainly from person-to-person and usually between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet).  Its vehicle of choice is coughing and sneezing.  It can also be spread through contact with infected surfaces or objects but according to the CDC, this is not thought to be the primary way the virus spreads.

The CDC has put together a list of everyday preventive recommendations to help protect and prevent the spread of viruses which includes the Coronavirus:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others.

Proactive measures that Craig School is currently taking

  • All classroom teachers have disinfectant sanitizing wipes in each classroom and will continue to wipe down surfaces throughout the school day.
  • Hand sanitizers are located in each and every classroom for students and staff use
  • Online learning supports are being researched to complement our current use of Google Classroom in most courses

We will do our best to keep you up to date as more information becomes available.  Other current resources for information include the New Jersey State Department of Health (https://www.nj.gov/health/cd/topics/ncov.shtml)

Stay Safe,

Tad Jacks,

Head of School
