Dear Badger Families,
I know it may seem like the summer is a long way off, but for planning purposes, it is right around the corner. At The Craig School, we want to help our students and families in any way we can avoid the typical summer slide. We host a Summer Academy and Enrichment and provide summer packets in Reading, Language Arts, and Math. This year, Summer Academy and Enrichment will be on our high school campus in Montville.
For those that enroll in the Summer Academy, students will have four classes from 9:00 am to noon: Reading, Language Arts, Math, and Technology. The summer packets assigned by their Language Arts and Math teachers are considered done at the end of the Summer Academy. For Reading, we ask that your child continue their reading by completing a portion of the assignment during August, your child’s reading teacher will let you know what that will be.
All students who attend the academic morning have the chance to continue their day with us for enrichment activities in the afternoon. Students will bring lunch and then choose between sports, gym, game room, art, movie making, and other rotating activities. On Fridays, when the academy is not in session, the enrichment has a full day of activities, including off-campus field trips. This camp experience is a wonderful opportunity for socialization and building friendships.
For planning purposes, we must have an accurate count of who will be attending our summer programs. We kindly ask that you register your child(ren) as soon as possible. We do understand some families may be waiting for their Annual Review for their IEP to ensure an ESY placement. If that is the case, please just indicate that on the registration form and send it in. This will allow us to hold a spot for your child(ren).

School Counselor Appreciation Week: We celebrated our counseling staff, Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Edwards, and Mrs. Hipscher, with thank you notes from their students and a special lunch. We truly appreciate all they do for our Craig Community! We will share more next week for everyone to enjoy!
STEM Night: A big thank you to our Science teachers, Mrs. Restieri, Ms. Arena, and Mrs. Vaporis! Last night’s Family STEM Night was a huge success with over 55 families in attendance. Families worked together on not just one, but two STEM challenges. They built a mini working robot and a working grabber. Scores were so close we had to have a tie-breaking cup stacking challenge. Congratulations to all!
Read Across America Week: We kicked off the celebration with an amazing Dr. Seuss themed breakfast hosted by PACS. Special thank you to Bridget Driscoll for chairing this event! Throughout this week we have had Dr. Seuss inspired spirit days. We are going all out today with grade level color wars, a day full of literary events, and minute-to-win-it games. Our day will end with a pep rally featuring Nuke-em games and our final heats of the middle school Ro-Sham-Bo tournament. Stay tuned on social media and next week’s newsletter for pictures!

Literary Magazine Submissions: As the weather turns colder many of us naturally spend more time indoors. Why not take this opportunity to encourage your child to show off their literary and artistic talents and growth? We are looking for all types of submissions from poems, short stories, and drawings, to pictures of models, and more. Please see the flier for other ideas and details. The deadline for entries is fast approaching; Mrs. Miller needs all submissions by the end of March.
