THE CRAIG SCHOOL

WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
Message from the Director

A huge thank you to our Craig School community for tuning in to our recent CHS Virtual Grad Panel. For those unable to join us, here is a link to the recording (CHS GRAD PANEL 2026).  This year’s panel was made up of a few members of the CHS Class of 2025: Chloe, Mary, and Madison. Between them, they covered a variety of post-secondary placements and shared their experiences and insights specific to college life through the lens of a student with learning disabilities.

  • Chloe spoke with us live from her dorm room at SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design). She is living in a suite on SCAD’s campus in Atlanta, GA. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Animation. Chloe emphasized the importance of meeting with professors and not being afraid to ask for help. A huge highlight of her 1st semester at college was attending an event on campus where the creator of K-Pop Demon Hunters came to SCAD to speak with the students.
  • Mary is in the Early Childhood Education program at Fairleigh Dickinson University (Madison/Florham Park campus). She is enrolled in the Regional Center for Learning Disabilities and attends regular academic coaching sessions each week at the support center. She shared that she continues to use assistive tech she used during her time at CHS, like Grammarly, Kami, and speech-to-text. Mary shared the importance of getting involved, taking initiative, and not being afraid to meet new people and exchange contact information to connect with classmates.
  • Madison spoke all about her experience at Beacon College in Leesburg, FL. She enjoys the supportive campus environment and small student body size and attends meetings with learning specialists, goes to office hours, and utilizes the writing center on campus. She has been enjoying the warmer climate in Florida and is excited to pursue her major in Anthrozoology (the interdisciplinary study of the relationships between humans and animals). She said a big difference between high school and college is the schedule and not having classes back-to-back, so she emphasized the importance of using downtime effectively.

All of our panelists advised our current students to continue to work hard, stay focused, and not be afraid to step out of their comfort zones. They encouraged students to ask for help and leverage their resources. Lastly, they emphasized the importance of staying positive and maintaining a can-do attitude, as that can really make a difference. Thank you again to our amazing panelists for taking the time to speak with us. Keep making us proud!

ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHTS

Algebra II - Math Lab, Bungee Jumping Experiment

In Mr. Simpson’s Algebra II classroom, students have been diving into the exciting world of lines of regression.  What are lines of regression, you ask?  Lines of regression are a visual way to understand and describe the relationship between two variables (dependent and independent).  Then, you can take that data and use it to predict an outcome.

Bugee Jumper 2nd from the left with our 11th Grade!

The math experiment they conducted involved taking a bungee jumping action figure and bungee jumping it from different heights. This height was the independent variable. Data was collected on the length of a rubber band needed to safely jump from a specific height. The rubber band length was the dependent variable.

As a class, they determined the line of regression for this data and calculated the safe rubber band length for a given height through verified calculations. Other than a mild concussion, our action figure was fairly unscathed as our math researchers found the perfect bungee height!
