THE CRAIG SCHOOL

WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
Message from the Director

Dear Badger Families,

We are excited to share a new addition to our indoor recess program that is already bringing more choice, connection, and calm to our students’ day.

Thanks to the creativity and initiative of Jessica Bollenbach, who recognized an opportunity to enrich indoor recess time, we have launched an Indoor Recess Activity Center in a corner of the gym. On days when the weather keeps us inside, this space offers students engaging alternatives to traditional sports or screen-based activities.

The Activity Center currently includes:

  • A variety of board games and card games
  • Quiet drawing and coloring materials
  • Body and mind movement options, including yoga (with additional activities coming soon from our Occupational Therapy team)
  • A “walking and talking” option with conversation topic cards, encouraging peer connection and communication from our Speech team)

The goal of this initiative is to provide students with a greater variety and choice during indoor recess while supporting the practice of important skills such as verbal communication, body awareness, coordination, and self-regulation. Just as importantly, it creates opportunities for students to connect with peers in meaningful, low-pressure ways—and gives everyone a little extra breathing room during busy days.

We would also like to thank our art teacher, Suzy Kutcher, for designing the beautiful poster that helps bring this space to life.

We are grateful to our staff for continually finding thoughtful ways to support our students’ needs and well-being, and we look forward to watching this new space continue to grow.

Have a great weekend,

Jen Guthrie

Summer Program July-August  2026-REGISTRATION

Summer School registration is now open, so here is what you need to know. The Craig School Summer Academic Program will be held at our MOUNTAIN LAKES campus during July (July 6-July 30, Mon-Thurs 9 am-12 pm).

The experience of having both schools on one campus last summer was a positive experience for our summer students and staff.

In addition to the morning academic program, you can also register for the AFTERNOON ENRICHMENT Program, which follows the morning academics, M-TH from 12-3:30 PM.

The afternoon enrichment program offers all-day field trips on Fridays throughout July (Fridays, 9AM-4PM).
