THE CRAIG SCHOOL

WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
Message from the Director

Dear Badger Families,

January has certainly brought some interesting weather patterns—and it does not appear to be finished with us just yet! Please remember that any school delays or closings are communicated in five ways:

  • A phone call through our parent outreach system
  • An email and text through Veracross
  • A post on our social media platforms
  • Listing on NJ News 12 school closings and delays

If you do not receive a phone call, email, or text notification when we have a weather delay or closing, please let me know the phone number or email address you would like updated, and I will be happy to correct it in our system. If your child receives contracted transportation, please be sure to contact the transportation company directly with any schedule changes.

As students continue to layer up with hats, gloves, and extra clothing, our lost and found continues to grow. Please label all items you would like returned. When we sort through the lost and found, labeled items are always the easiest to reunite with their owners.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Jennifer Guthrie
Director of the Lower & Middle School

ALUMNI EVENTS

TRANSITION PROGRAM

Alumni Spotlight - CHS Class of 2024, Peter Returns to NJ: Craig Middle School and CHS Class of 2024 alum, Peter, paid a visit to CHS on his break from Lynn University. Peter spoke with Dr. Skerker's 11th Grade Postsecondary Strategies seminar class and shared that he started his college career at Beacon College in Leesburg, Florida, but last year transferred to Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida to pursue a degree in Cybersecurity.

Lynn is a private university with over 3,500 students.  Popular majors at Lynn include Business & Management, Psychology, Aeronautics, Communication & Design, Hospitality, and the performing arts.  Peter talked about the process of transferring schools and how Lynn’s block schedule approach works well for his learning style. He also shared that he utilizes the LD support services available through Lynn’s Institute for Achievement & Learning and meets with an academic coach weekly.  It was so great to see Peter, and we appreciate all of his college insights.

IMPORTANT INFO

CHS Takes a Live Virtual Tour of Cadiz, Spain: Last week, our 11th and 12th-grade Foreign Language classes were treated to a virtual live tour of the oldest city in Europe, courtesy of Mr. Furlong and Liz from GOGI ABROAD.  Cadiz is a coastal port city located in southwest Spain that, on a clear day, has a direct view of Morocco in North Africa.

Our students were greeted by Liz and two of her peers, who led them on a live walking tour of the cobblestone streets of Cadiz.  It was 8:30 AM here, which made it 1:30 PM there, and is prime “siesta” time in Spain, so the streets were a little empty.  In addition, the locals were getting ready to celebrate the Three Kings, which marks the official end of Christmas there.

We visited the outside of the Cadiz Cathedral, which was built in the 18th century, and explored the various plazas surrounding it.  We then made our way to El Palmar, a surfing beach of golden sand surrounded by fortified walls.  We also discussed the food of Spain, Flamenco lessons, and the international schooling system located there.  It was a Muy buen tour!
