THE CRAIG SCHOOL

WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
Message from the Head Of School
NOTES FROM THE DIRECTOR

LS/MS Newsletter- Week of  March 31st

Emails will be going out this afternoon with your child’s goals and objectives from each subject area. Please check your email and spam folders for the email from records@craigschool.org. Report cards will be available on Veracross. Please reach out to our Director of Technology, John Chismar, jchismar@criagschool.org if you are having trouble logging in.

Public speaking is not something that everyone enjoys. However, it is a great skill to practice in a comfortable environment. Our Orton classes have started to perform reader’s theater plays using their Orton word lists and vocabulary. This is a very engaging way to work on fluency and prosody skills while getting a chance to practice public speaking. Each group that has done this has had a Badger audience cheering them on for their show. Our most recent performers were Sydney Tzoulafis, Miles White, and Connor Ferrera under the direction of their Orton teacher, Mrs. Pompilio.

Another chance for public speaking comes from our leadership council. Just one example is participation in our admissions open house events. Our last open house of the year was this week and two of our peer leaders were asked to speak to the families about the experience at The Craig School. The students use this prompt to write their own paragraph, rehearse it, and speak in front of a group of strangers. Each time we do this I am amazed at their confidence, poise, and their ability to speak from the heart. Their passion about their experience at The Craig School is contagious. This year Andy Hallowell and Gaby Levine spoke at our fall open house. Thomas Sweeney and Kaiden Pfeiffer spoke at our winter open house, and this week, Harper Loughlin and Alexa Lockwood shared their experiences. We thank each of them for their warm words to our prospective families.

These are two of the many ways our teachers go above and beyond, think outside of the box, and create engaging ways to help your children develop not only their core academic skills, but confidence and speaking as well.

Jen Guthrie
