High School Week of February 5th

THE CRAIG SCHOOL

WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
Message from the Head Of School

Dear Craig Families,

Where will you be on April 8th? You will witness a total solar eclipse as long as you are outside!

Congratulations to Craig High’s very own Mrs. Bhakta for being selected as an NSTA/SSI Solar Eclipse Partner. The NSTA is the National Science Teaching Association. This honor bestowed upon Mrs. Bhakta will allow Craig High to access resources to further enhance our students' abilities to understand the science behind the eclipse. When we get close to the actual date, Mrs. Bhakta and Dr. Cap will send out additional information about how we will celebrate the campus eclipse. But for now, join me in celebrating Mrs. Bhakta for this award!

Warmly,

Susan Schmitt

NOTES FROM THE DIRECTOR

This week, we celebrate one of our very own CHS teachers, Mrs. Bhakta, and her selection as a National Science Teaching Association/Space Science Institute (NSTA/SSI) Solar Eclipse Partner where she will work hand in hand with eclipse experts and other partnering schools to educate and celebrate upcoming eclipses with our students.   Also this week, we celebrate another one of our amazing 12th graders and another impressive college acceptance.  Senior, Alyssa has been accepted to Monmouth University!

Also, the Craig High Chapter of the National Honor Society will once again be partnering with our neighbor, St. Pius X Church, for our annual “Souper Bowl” Soup Can drive leading into this year's Super Bowl.  Each can that is donated will go into a specially marked box designating our two Super Bowl contenders, the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.  We will even have a “Taylor Swift” box for those who might be neutral about the outcome.  Students will decide which box/team gets the cans.  We will start collecting cans this Monday, February 5th through next Friday, February 9th, and use our can totals to pick our Super Bowl winner and predict the final score.  And yes, we will be accepting more than just soup.  Soup just worked better in the drive title!  All canned donations will be going to our local Food Pantry.

Speaking of the Super Bowl, our students will get an opportunity to see an actual Super Bowl ring as our Josten Ring rep for the past 20 years, Dennis will be hosting a student info session on designing and ordering high school rings on Wednesday, February 7th.   Josten has been the official provider of Super Bowl rings since 1960.  More info is below including some guidelines on how to design a one-of-a-kind high school ring as a family.  Welcome to February.

COMMUNITY NEWS

CHS National Honor Society Presents "Souper Bowl" Soup Can Drive:  The Craig High Chapter of the National Honor Society is partnering with St. Pius X Church and holding a SOUP CAN drive leading up to this year's Super Bowl LVIII. Send in your favorite canned soups or other canned foods which will be donated to the local Montville Township food pantry.

We will have three can boxes in our gym, one representing each team in this year's Super Bowl - the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs and the other, a Taylor Swift box for our nuetral fans. Your can donations will determine which team our school is backing on Super Bowl Sunday. We will also be using can totals to predict the final score! The more cans you bring in, the more Super Bowl votes you get. We will be collecting our cans through Friday, February 9.

Josten Ring INFO SESSION-Designing Your Own HS Ring:  Next week, our Josten ring sales rep will be paying Craig High a visit. He will be handing out order booklets and walking students through how to design their very own high school class rings online. He also might surprise them by letting them try on a Super Bowl ring given to the winning team. Josten is the official Super Bowl ring provider of the NFL and has been since 1960!

ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHTS

Craig Senior Alyssa accepted to Monmouth University:  We are proud to announce that Alyssa has been accepted to Monmouth University located in West Long Branch, NJ!  In addition to her acceptance, she also was offered an $11,5oo academic scholarship per year if she decides to attend.

Monmouth is home to approximately 6,000 students and offers a variety of academic majors including exercise science, marketing, nursing, education, and communications. They also feature some amazing options to combine Bachelor's + Master’s degree studies to complete both degrees within a five-year timeframe.  And if that wasn’t awesome enough, Monmouth is located about 5 minutes from the Long Branch Boardwalk which features many opportunities to enjoy all that the shore life has to offer!

Monmouth provides student support services through their specialized Disability Services Office.  Students can attend tutoring sessions, receive counseling services, and participate in workshops on study skills, note-taking, and educational technology. Congratulations again to Alyssa & Go Hawks!

PARKING MESSAGE

Mountain Lakes Campus

We are very grateful to have such an involved community! As with any large family, we can overwhelm those around us sometimes. Please help us by doing your best to be considerate of our neighbors whenever you come to campus.

As you come to campus for drop-off, pick-up, and various activities, please continue to be good neighbors to our community. Ideally, when picking up at regular dismissal time, please try to come as close to 3:00 as possible. It is even fine to plan to be here at 3:10. I certainly understand that not all family schedules allow for waiting until 3:00 and just ask that you do what you can. If you must line up before 3:00, please be very mindful of not blocking the road or driveways on either side of Laurel Hill Road and obey idling laws by turning off your car.

When coming onto the Mountain Lakes campus for activities, whether they are during the day or after school, please continue to be considerate of our community. Please only park in lined spots in our lot, in empty spots in the Blue House parking lot, or across the Boulevard at the Masonic Lodge.

We truly appreciate your support of and commitment to your children and The Craig School!
