HIGH SCHOOL WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
NOTES FROM THE DIRECTOR

A little change in plans for 2nd Trimester Progress Reports.  They will be coming home with your teen at the end of this week (Friday, Feb. 26th).  If you have any questions or need for clarification on a progress report, please feel free to email that teacher directly (teacher email addresses are on each progress report).

Each student’s COACH will be reviewing the progress reports with their COACHees during afternoon support starting this week through next week.  This will allow our students to be an active participant in understanding their progress in specific classes, gain clarity on areas they need to continue to work on, and to be a part of the game planning necessary to set and achieve any decided goals.

COMMUNITY NEWS

WINTER SPIRIT DAY 2021

Our rescheduled Winter Spirit Day was a blast!  Great turnout, great participation, great school spirit!  The morning began with a pre-Spirit Day breakfast of bagels, freshly baked cinnamon buns, and hot chocolate.

Big thank you to high school parent Amanda Jahn for firing up the school’s ovens and getting our Spirit Day off to a semi-healthy (there was also fruit) and delicious start!

Next, we held our 2nd annual student SUMO tournament.  Through the generous Hamster Ball loan program extended by our former neighbors, Boonton High, we crowned one new Sumo Champ and watched another champ defend her title.    Congrats to 10th graders Luke Emodi and Jules Christern.

Next event was a Sleeping Bag Relay.  We had six teams of three compete and other than the occasional well insulated sleeping bag tumble, it went off without a hitch.  Sleeping Bag Champs were Jules, Grady, and Jarod.

We wrapped up our Spirit Day with our first hoops game of the season and a Candle Making workshop led by Mrs. Tartaglia.  It was a close game and the school smelt amazing.

And what would Spirit Day be without a few guests.  We capped our Alumni visitors to a handful and hopeful next Spirit Day, we will be able to extend the invite to even more. We had alum reps from the class of 2018, 2019, and 2020!

See our photos from Spirit Day in our gallery!

MOUNT PETER TWILIGHT SKIING

Discount for Craig Students and Families Fri Feb 26th

Due to COVID, the Craig School Annual Ski Program has been put on hold so our friends at Mount Peter have extended a special skiing discount offer to The Craig School community.  Next Friday, February  26th, Mount Peter in Warwick, NY (https://www.mtpeter.com/) has put together some special pricing for Craig Families only.  The pricing for twilight skiing (3PM-8PM) includes three options: One, $95.00 for Lift, Lesson & Rental.  Two, $70.00 for just Lift & Rental and for our veteran skiers who own their own equipment, $30 for just a Lift ticket.  Just share that you are with the Craig School and they will provide you with the special pricing and the safety/rental forms you would need to fill out. They do ask that you pay by check or cash to receive the discounted prices.

This is not a formal Craig School event but it is a great opportunity to get together with other Craig families to share some powder!  If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to Mr. Furlong at NFurlong@CraigSchool.org

SPECIAL SPEAKER EVENT - March 3rd, 2021 7 pm

Conflict in Special Education: Conflict Resolution, Appropriate Dispute Resolution, and Facilitated IEPs

The Individuals with Disabilities Act strongly emphasizes the importance of an effective family-professional partnership in creating the student’s educational program (IDEA, 2004). The IEP meeting is an opportunity for the team of experts, including parents, teachers, related service providers, and the child (when appropriate), to openly communicate and collaborate. However, there may be times when the participants come to the table with varying perspectives or disagreements. This session presents an overview of how the team can use research-based facilitation techniques to promote communication, prevent conflict, and reconcile differences so that the team can focus on the student's needs and craft a robust and unique program for the child. Participants will leave with tools and techniques they can implement at their next IEP.

For those of you who would like to register for the event now may do so by clicking on this link: https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJIlc-ivqTIrHtZQiEWkGnhdwDHCgb4klZPF After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

PARENT SURVEY

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The new year has begun, and we know you are navigating this semester in the context of COVID-19. We know you are balancing so much, and we hope you will take some time to let us know how we’re doing and how COVID-19 has affected your experience as a part of our school community.

Please complete a short survey by February 22nd, 2021 to help us understand your experience right now.

The survey, hosted on the website of the National Association of Independent Schools, will only take about 5 minutes to complete. Your responses will help us improve the way we deliver programming and communicate with our community.

Thank you for your partnership and ongoing support of our school community.
