May is a big month on the calendar. We are not just talking about its membership in the 31-day club nor its welcomed warmer weather and increased flowerage. It's the month of appreciation, proms, and cookouts! Let's start with the appreciation. Next week is Teacher Appreciation, and thanks to PACS and you, our amazing parents and students, we will be celebrating TEACHER APPRECIATION all next week.
Here is the shared appreciation plan for the “Craig Teachers are Out of this World” celebration:
And while this is all happening, our students will be hosting their annual TEACHER APPRECIATION Car Wash, where they will make their teachers' cars shine inside and out!
The weeks after that, we enter PROM Season and will be hosting “A Winning Night” at the Mansion in Mountain Lakes on Monday evening, May 18th. Last year, we hit the 90% of all of our students and teachers RSVP’ing, so we are hoping to top that this year!
And that leads us to our AWARDS CEREMONY on Thursday, May 21st, at 12:30 PM where we are inviting parents to join us to celebrate the wonderful accomplishments of our students and join us for a post-awards cookout. I am thinking we all need that end-of-the-month Memorial Day weekend to recover from all of the Craig High fun.
Looking forward to celebrating May with you,
Dr. Cap

EARTH DAY 2026
Earth Day 2026 is in the books! CHS joined schools around the world to celebrate Earth Day this week. Our highlight was our annual CHS Earth Day Campus Clean Up. In addition to beautifying our campus, our students earned a $500 Clean Community grant through the Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority's “Keep Morris County Litter Free” program. The grant will be used to further enhance our school recycling program. Armed with grabbers, gloves, trash bags, and words of encouragement from Mr. Norton, our students covered our two-acre campus from top to bottom, removing anything that was not green and growing!
This year, we changed up Earth Day award categories and went with EARTH DAY MVPS! These MVP’s went beyond the call, put in the time, and collected a lot of trash and recyclables to set the bar. This year’s Earth Day MVPs were Joey Tall, Griff, Max, and Miles. All in all, we removed 6 huge garbage bags, which we are guessing weighed over 40lbs. Great job, CHS, showing the Earth a little love!

CHS Chemistry: How does Your Town's Water Stack Up?
In Mr. Simpson’s Chemistry class, they are currently studying Covalent Bonds. For those a little rusty in their HS Chem, a covalent bond is a type of chemical bond formed when two non-metal atoms share one or more pairs of valence electrons to achieve stability. Water is one of the most common examples of a covalent bond, and one of its unique properties is that it dissolves salts.
Using a probe that measures the concentration of dissolved minerals, salts, and metals in water and bringing in their own sample of water from their hometowns, our students calculated the total dissolved solids for their water samples. Ideal drinking water is generally between 50–500 ppm, with levels over 1000 ppm considered unsafe
We are happy to report that all of the samples were well below the 500 parts per million. The highest value we saw was even below 100 ppm. They then used this data to compare their town's water with filtered and distilled water, which set the bar for low ppm. Many of our towns actually beat bottled water, but we can report that all water samples were safe to drink.
CHS Badgers ESPORTS Team Split Dual Match
The CHS Badgers ESPORTS team took on Southern Regional HS and South Plainfield HS this past week. We put up a 2-0 against South Plainfield and dropped a 0-2 decision to Southern Regional. The Badgers were led by the trio of Mike B, Christian, and Cal.
For the Badgers II team, all races were super tight, with Elijah and Miles keeping us within striking distance. Next week, we wrap up the regular season with matches on Tuesday (Community HS) and Wednesday (Plainfield HS and Burlington County Institute of Technology.
