WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
Message from the Director

Tomorrow, Saturday, May 3rd, is our Craig School Community Drive-In. We are watching the weather closely as it looks like there could be some rain, but we know how quickly projected weather can change.  We will keep you posted, but as of the writing of this week's CHIL the plan for Saturday’s Drive In is that the CHS lots will open up at 6:30PM and showtime will be 7:45PM.  We will have a full cash concession stand run by our Class of 2025 to raise money for the Senior Trip to Hershey.   Our Class of 2025 concession stand will be selling burgers, dogs, pretzels, hot chocolate, and sodas.

Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week, May 5th through May 9th.  The theme this year is flowers, so first, PACS is asking your parents to donate flowers here (Flower Bouquets) and have your teen bring them in on MON, May 5th.

Once we have our flowers, our students will be learning the art of Flower Arranging in Art Class and make bouquets for each teacher.  Also, a reminder that PACS is hosting Teacher Appreciation Breakfast on Friday, May 9, and we are looking for some breakfast donations to round out our breakfast table (Teacher Appreciation Breakfast Sign Up)

And lastly, our PROM is two weeks out, and prom tickets are now on sale.  Full catered dinner, student-generated song list, Carnival Games and Prizes.  Something for everyone!  Tickets are $70 and students are welcome to bring guests. Hope to see you at the Movies this Saturday!

CHS May YUM Box-The Netherlands:  This month, our brave CHS snackers head to the Netherlands, land of Windmills, Tulip Fields, Canals, Clogs, and Cheese. Gouda, to be more precise!  In Dutch, a Yum Box is a “Lekkerdoos”.

We will begin our snacking journey with some GOUDA cheese sticks and PAPRIKA Potato Chips.  Our sweet course will consist of STROOPWAFELS (early versions were made of breadcrumbs and syrup) and SPECULOOS (gingerbread cookies).  And we will wrap up with a few VAN SLOOTEN Chews and EGGNOG Toffees!  We will let you know how this month’s “Lekkerdoos” rates.

ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHTS

CHS Physics-Sound Theory Experiment:  In Mr. Simpson’s physics class, our 12th graders explored Sound Theory with a particular focus on overtones. In sound theory, overtones are additional frequencies that exist alongside the fundamental overtone, which is what you hear and is usually the lowest tone.  These additional overtones contribute to the timbre or tone color of a sound and are what make it so distinct.

Our student scientists explored the fundamental, first, second, and third overtones of the lowest string of the bass guitar by capturing the waves with an oscilloscope.  After they captured the sound graph, they then analyzed the graph to find the frequency.  The outcome was that the wavelength of the vibration was inversely proportional to the frequency of the vibration.  According to Mr. Simpson, any fun that was had during this experiment was an unintended side effect.

CHS Internship-Senior Mary at the Montville Library:  We are so proud of CHS 12th grader, Mary, who has been a student intern at the Montville Township Library this past school year. Each week, she works at the library assisting with storytime, planning and preparing for upcoming programs, and shelving books in the children’s department.

Mary is a huge hit with the young library patrons and their families each week. Mary recently ran the fan-favorite Play-Doh activity for the local toddlers. She has loved interacting with the staff and community members over the course of the year. This internship has really helped solidify her postsecondary career goals of planning to work with children one day. We are extremely proud of Mary for balancing this internship while managing her schoolwork and extracurriculars. Job well done!!

ATHLETICS

Afterschool Golf Clinics WEEK TWO:  Week 2 of our Golf Clinics is in the books, and our golfers are still swinging away!

We unveiled our two-hole par-4 CHS Golf course and put our skills to the test.  Few close hole-in-ones and a couple of birdies to wrap up week two!

THE CRAIG GOLF EVENT NEEDS YOUR HELP:  Here are 2 ways you can help.  First, our online auction will run alongside the outing, and we need your help to make it a success! Thanks to our generous Craig families, we’re bringing back the Amazon Wish List for easy item donations. Simply select an item, and it will be shipped directly to Craig School to be bundled into auction packages. All items must arrive by May 21st.

How You Can Help the Auction:

  • Golf Club Connections – If you’re a golf club member or know someone who is, a golf foursome donation or a member and a threesome would be a sought-after auction item.
  • Auction Donations – Have season tickets, a vacation home, or access to unique experiences? Consider donating them! Gift cards are also great additions.
  • Monetary Contributions – Cash donations are welcome! Make checks payable to The Craig School and drop them off at the Blue House.

Every contribution - big or small - helps make this event successful. Thank you for supporting Craig’s largest fundraiser!  For questions, contact: Amanda Jahn (ajahn@craigschool.org), or Mary Calvano (mcalvano@craigschool.org)

The second way to help - attend the outing and/or dinner.  Details are:
