THE CRAIG SCHOOL

WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
Message from the Director

Hope you have all adjusted to our daylight savings change. The sun we miss in the morning, we get to enjoy into the early evening, so it's not a bad trade-off!

Last week, we hosted our annual READ ACROSS AMERICA with the goal of sparking the lost art of reading for pleasure.  We are thinking the pajama day and the loaded hot chocolate and cookie bar had a lot to do with our 100% participation, but we are okay with that!  Big thanks to PACS and our CHS parents for supplying us with all our edible motivation.

This upcoming week, we have 12PM CLOSES for the entire week of March 16th. If you haven’t already, please reach out to Mrs. Mershimer (DMershimer@craigschool.org) and see what time blocks are available for our virtual spring PARENT-TEACHER Conferences.  There are morning options on WEDS-FRI (7:45-8:45 AM) and afternoon options on WEDS and THURS (1-3 PM).  We plan to finalize our schedule on Monday and send out all Zoom Links and schedules to our parents by Tuesday.

We are also asking parents to be a part of our annual TRIMESTER TREATS during our three days of exams (next WEDS-FRI).  We are looking for a variety of single-serve snacks to help our students stay focused and motivated during exams.  Please send in any snacks on MON or TUES.  Drop off will be in the gym.  Chips, cookies, muffins, fruit, and trail mix are always well received by our snackers!

Also, our April lunch ordering window opens this FRIDAY, March 13th, and runs through FRIDAY, March 23rd.

Zoom you soon,

Dr. Cap

ALUMNI EVENTS

CHS Alumni Spotlight Class of 2022, Jaiden

It’s always special to hear from our alumni, and just recently, Jaiden from the CHS Class of 2022 reached out and shared an update on his college adventures.

Jaiden is in his third year at Kean University in Union, NJ, where he’s pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.  Kean is New Jersey’s first public post-secondary institution (founded in 1855) and is considered a premier urban research university. It is located in Union, NJ, and is known as a "campus within a city", offering easy access to New York.

Jaiden has made Kean’s Dean's List regularly, earning him an invitation to join Kean University’s national honor society dedicated to supporting and recognizing neurodivergent college students.

When not immersed in his college courses, Jaiden is an active member of the NeuroAllies Club, a new campus club focused on neurodiversity awareness. Their purpose is to educate the Kean community about issues affecting autistic and neurodivergent individuals.

Looking ahead, Jaiden plans to wrap up his BA in Psychology and pursue a Master’s degree and become a school psychologist. He shared that he definitely has his hands full—but that everything is going great. We couldn’t be prouder. Craig High is cheering you on, Jaiden!

Mr furlong and Susan Schmitt in Cincinnati are visiting with alumni Michael Coscia. We are so proud of all that you have accomplished!

Bottle Cap Drive for Montville Township Women's Club/Aluminum Soda Pop Tabs for Ronald McDonald House

The CHS NHA and NAHS have joined forces with the Montville Township Women's Club to collect plastic bottle caps. Water bottle caps, Gatorade bottle caps, or any other plastic packaged beverage cap is acceptable. The bottle caps are collected and sent to a processing plant, where they are made into certified PCR (Post-Consumer Resin) for new packaging, caps, and other applications.

As we have done for the past few years, we also continue to collect aluminum soda pop tabs to send to the Ronald McDonald House to support families battling pediatric cancer.   Both collection containers can be found in The Craig High School Gym, so students are welcome to drop off during morning arrival.
