THE CRAIG SCHOOL

WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
Message from the Director

It's Showtime in September! This Saturday, September 27th, the 6th Annual Craig Drive Inn will be in full effect.  Our Parking Lot opens at 6 PM, the CHS Student Grill opens at 6:01 PM, and our movie starts at 6:40 PM, so bring your favorite outdoor chair, a jacket for cool weather, and a few $$ for our Class of 2026 concession stand.

As we wrap up September and make our way into October, it will be “Frost Valley” Time before you know it!  Our Students will be heading to the Catskills, staying in quaint lodges, and attending a variety of outdoor activities during their three-day stay (Weds-Fri, October 15th-17th).  Here is the link to the required paperwork and a “WHAT TO BRING” checklist (Frost Valley Forms).   All signed forms and a $300 check payable to Craig School need to be in by October 6th.  Any Frost Valley questions, let Mr. Furlong know (NFurlong@craigschool.org).

As we tell our students often,  “the right tool for the right job”!  So in the same vein, we would like to share with you, our parents, “the right person for the right question”!  In this week's CHIL, you will find our Craig High Communication Ladder.  Here is to a great week,

Dr. Cap

PACS

A Warm Thank You from PACS:  We loved meeting and chatting with so many new and returning Craig families at Back to School Night and the Open Meeting! What a wonderful, supportive community we have. Our PACS community thrives because of everyone’s involvement—no matter how big or small.

Many parents have already expressed interest in volunteering and getting involved. If you haven’t yet, please send in your membership form and click the Volunteer Interest button below to let us know how you might like to help. Even if you’re not sure or have limited time, letting us know still helps us plan—events are coming up quickly and we truly need parent support!

If you have any questions about volunteering, please reach out to our HS Liaison, Allison Tyler, at pacshs@craigschool.org.

ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHTS

CHS Senior, Charlie, Achieves Eagle Scout Rank:  Last week, a court of honor was held in Hasbrook Heights to celebrate Craig High’s very own 12th grader, Charlie, for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.  Only 4% of all scouts achieve this milestone, and Charlie joins an amazing and exclusive list of Nobel Prize winners, US Presidents, Leaders of Industry, and 40 Astronauts!

To achieve this ranking, a scout must earn 21 merit badges, serve 16 months in a leadership position, camp for 24 nights, attend seven scoutmaster conferences, go through five boards of review, and propose, plan, and carry out an Eagle service project.  Charlie’s Eagle Scout project was the restoration of the Early Learning Center in his community.  Charlie led a group of scout volunteers and recemented the front steps, painted the front of the facility, built bookshelves, and designed bookmarkers for the younger patrons.

During the ceremony, Charlie was presented with his Eagle Scout medal by his mom and his badge by his Scout Leader.  Next, all of his amazing accomplishments and giving nature were shared.  For Craig High, Charlie has done so much over the years, from Club Leader to Student Ambassador.   We are so proud of Charlie and look forward to all of the amazing things he will accomplish.

IMPORTANT INFO

CHS Guest College Visitors Series-Wednesday, October 1st. Landmark College:  CHS students will have the opportunity to attend a Lunch and Learn with Landmark College, one of the few fully-LD colleges in the country.  Landmark is located in Putney, Vermont (about 3.5 hours from our Craig campus) and is home to 450 students.

They offer both Bachelor’s and Associate’s degrees as well as online programs for neurodiverse students. Landmark's Gap Year option, called TaC (Transition at College), is another great option for students to ease into postsecondary studies. Landmark prides itself on its Career Connections and getting students hands-on experiences in internships and job opportunities. Landmark is also known for having therapy dogs on campus and using Universal Design of Learning (UDL) to support all learners. For those already thinking ahead to next summer, Landmark offers pre-college summer programs for high school students with LDs. All students are invited to join us in the Meeting Room on 10/1 during Lunch to learn more!
