THE CRAIG SCHOOL

WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
Message from the Director

We had almost 90% of our families join us for our Back to School Night (BTSN), and of that 90%, we had 100% support for our senior bake sale!  We would like to share a big thank you to all of our Craig High BTSN student ambassadors who helped out by fielding questions, guiding our parents to classes, and keeping us on schedule throughout the evening!

We would also like to thank all of our parent, student, and teacher bakers for sharing their time and their baking prowess to support the Craig High Class of 2026 at our annual senior bake sale.  And this Saturday, the 6th Annual Craig Drive will be in full effect, so mark your calendar for Saturday, September 27th, 6 PM in Montville (CHS Parking Lot).  Here is to a great week and an even better weekend!

Together, we can make this a fantastic year for our Craig community!!

PACS Welcome Back Teacher Breakfast: Earlier this month, the Craig High faculty were treated to an amazing Welcome Back Breakfast courtesy of PACS.

There were every type of baked goods you can think of, including muffins, homemade banana bread, and homemade coffee cake!  Thank you to PACS and to all of our HS parents who submitted their PACS membership forms (if you haven’t, it's never too late- Membership Form Link).  It's your support that allows these wonderful events to take place, and they are so appreciated by the Craig High faculty.

ALUMNI EVENTS

CHS Class of 2024, Grace-FDU Update: We were so excited to welcome Grace back to Craig High this week! Grace has just begun her sophomore year at Fairleigh Dickinson University (Florham Park/Madison campus). She shared the great news that she made FDU’s Honor Roll during both semesters of her freshman year! That will come as no surprise to those who know her, as she was a staple on the CHS Honor Roll during her Craig High career.

Grace is majoring in Education at FDU with the ultimate goal of pursuing a career as an Orton-Gillingham Reading Specialist. She plans to begin her student-teaching hours this winter. Grace is also involved in Greek Life on campus and serves on the executive board of her sorority. She is following in her mom’s footsteps as a legacy member of Phi Sigma Sigma. Grace also just began an on-campus job this fall at the financial aid office. She is working in an administrative role, helping students access their financial aid packages and arranging meetings with financial counselors. We are so proud of Grace and always welcome the opportunity to reconnect with our alumni!

ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHTS

CHS Program Spotlight

CHS Guest College Visitors Series, THIS THURSDAY-Dean College, Franklin, MA Lunch Visit:  We are excited to kick off this year's Lunch & Learn series, where we meet with admissions representatives from various colleges and postgraduate programs from around the country. Our first visitor will be an admissions counselor from Dean College! We've had a few CHS students attend Dean and have loved it!

Founded in 1865, Dean is located in Franklin, Massachusetts, and is home to 1200 students. They offer a variety of associate’s and bachelor’s degrees in acting, criminal justice, family and childhood studies, education, exercise science, marketing, and sports broadcasting.  Clubs include Badminton Club, the Power 88 college radio station, and every outdoor sport you can think of.

Dean College offers accessibility services through the Arch Learning Community.  Within Arch, students receive three hours of academic coaching per week, attend weekly seminar classes, and participate in workshops and tutoring sessions. All students are invited to join us in the Meeting Room on 9/25 during Lunch to learn more.

ATHLETICS

After-School Fencing Lessons in Mt. Lakes :

The program is led by Vladimir Lilov, a World Champion Fencing Instructor who has been working with Craig School for over a decade.  Fencing will start up next week  and run through early October on the following M and W:

  • Wednesday, September 17, 24, and October 1st
  • Monday, September 15, 22, 29, and October 6th

The cost for the 8-week program is $200 (checks payable to “Vladimir Lilov”).  We will transport our fencers over to Mt. Lakes (Reeth-Furlong Gym). Parents would just need to arrange for pick up in Mt. Lakes at 4 PM.  If you are interested in signing your teen up, use Craig Fencing Link.  If you  have any questions, email Mr. Furlong at NFurlong@craigschool.org

Badger Cross Country (XC) Hits the Open Road:  Badger X-C started up its fall season this past week with its largest group of runners in years!  Our team is headed up by veteran runners Max,  Charlie, Daniel, and Alex with a whole lot of new faces/sneakers.  We are finalizing our 5K race schedule and have a cross-country meet set for mid-October with another area HS.  There is still time for any interested runners to join us.  Just reach out to Coach Crum at JCrum@craigschool.org or students can swing by room 104.

XC Team 2025 1st Practice

Our practice schedule is:

  • TUES Sept 16, 30, October 14, 21, 28
  • THURS Sept 11, 25, October 16, 23, 30

Practices will be held from 3-4:30 PM on most Tuesdays and Thursdays into late October.  Our cross-country race schedule for the season traditionally includes two to three 5K races, usually held somewhere in Morris County.

Races are on the weekends (Saturday or Sunday) starting in late September and we wrap up our final race usually in late October.  Races are optional, but are an amazing experience.  We will register our student runners, but parents will be responsible for the cost of the race ($30 per).  The cost for all races and our x-country team shirt is $100 (checks made payable to Craig School).  Parents, siblings, friends, and relatives are welcome to register on their own and run with us!  Our race schedule will be announced during the first week of practices.  Any questions, contact CHS Cross Country coach Ms. Crum at JCrum@craigschool.org
